Beachcomber Newspaper

Palm Beach State's student newspaper, the Beachcomber, is an organization designed to unify the campus community. It is used as a medium to communicate information and express student opinion both generally and individually. Involvement opportunities range from writing, copy editing, photography, layout and graphic design, web editing, and marketing and advertising.

students The Beachcomber is the student voice of Palm Beach State College. Story contributions, photography and all other artistry and creative works are the individual products of student staff members. The student newspaper is not just appropriate for journalism majors, but all students with an interest, desire and commitment to news media.

Traditional broadcast, print and radio journalism is evolving, but in ways that new multimedia converges and provides more opportunities for today's college graduates.  Here's what we know:

"Reportorial journalism is getting smaller, but the commentary and discussion aspect of media, which adds analysis, passion and agenda shaping, is growing-- in cable, radio, social media, blogs and elsewhere." State of the News Media, 2010

"Journalism is the first rough draft of history." Donald Graham, chairman of the Washington Post Co.

Interested students are welcome to attend pitch and/or production meetings. During the fall and spring terms, meetings are held the first Fridays at 11:30 a.m. The student newspaper does not have regularly scheduled meetings or print newspapers during the Summer terms.
