The Public Safety Advanced Education and Training at Palm Beach State College provides courses for certified emergency services professionals designed to improve and expand their level of knowledge and skills as well as coursework needed to maintain their certification. The College also offers:

- Pediatric Advanced Life Support
- Trauma training classes
- EMT and Paramedic Refresher classes
- Basic Community Emergency Response Team training
- Child Care First Aid & CPR
Customized training programs can be developed for agencies interested in providing training on a specific topic.
The American Heart Association strongly promotes knowledge and proficiency in BLS,
ACLS, and PALS and has developed instructional materials for this purpose. Use of
these materials in an educational course does not represent course sponsorship by
The American Heart Association, and any fees charged for such a course do not represent
income to the Association.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Advanced Cardiac Life Support Provider - AHO0033
The ACLS Provider course is designed for health care providers who either direct or participate in the management of cardiopulmonary arrest or other cardiovascular emergencies. EKG recognition is an essential element of the ACLS course, and participants will be responsible for the identification and interpretation of EKG rhythms. Prerequisites: Participants must be proficient in performing high-quality BLS skills, reading and interpreting electrocardiograms, understanding ACLS drugs, and bag-mask ventilations. Participants must complete and pass the Pre-course Self-Assessment with a score of 70% or higher.
ACLS Renewal - AHO0032
This course will update and renew qualified providers in ACLS. Your BLS skills and knowledge must also be current, and you must bring your current ACLS card to class. Textbook is mandatory.
Basic Life Support (BLS-CPR)
BLS (CPR) Provider - AHO0123
The BLS for Healthcare Provider course is designed to train participants to recognize cardiac arrest, provide high-quality CPR for victims of all ages, and to provide early use of an AED. The class also teaches how to relieve choking.
BLS (CPR) Renewal - AHO0124
This course is designed to update and renew health professionals in BLS. You must have a current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers card and bring it with you to class. Current textbook is required for this class.
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Provider - AHO0481
Prerequisites: Students must be proficient in performing child and infant BLS skills using current AHA guidelines, reading and interpreting ECG rhythm strips and knowing basic resuscitation pharmacology. Participants must complete and pass the Precourse Self-Assessment with a score of 70% or higher.
Via didactic and experiential teaching methods, students learn to recognize and provide emergency care for respiratory failure, shock and cardiopulmonary arrest. Students rotate through BLS, advanced airway, vascular access, fluid therapy, medication and rhythm disturbance and management stations.
The CERT Program is a cooperative effort between Palm Beach County Emergency Management and Palm Beach State College. Properly trained citizens can become a tremendous response resource in an emergency. Palm Beach County Emergency Management, in partnership with Palm Beach State maintains a citizen training program known as CERT (Community Emergency Response Team). This program is designed to focus on hurricanes and other potential major emergencies common to Palm Beach County.

Palm Beach State College offers both the EMT Basic Refresher course and the Paramedic Refresher course every two years (even years).
EMT Basic Refresher - EMO0381
This course is designed to meet the re-certification needs of the EMT-Basic who is currently certified by the State of Florida. The course length is 32 hours and includes a minimum of 2 hours in Pediatric/SUIDS education. Updates on current trends in pre-hospital care will be covered. Participants must be currently Basic Life Support Provider certified.
Paramedic Refresher - EMO0170
This 32-hour course provides a review of critical issues and topics for the paramedic currently certified by the State of Florida. All materials presented follow the EMT-Paramedic Refresher Training program set forth by the U.S. DOT at the time of the course.
