Palm Beach State students, faculty, staff, alumni, prospective students and the public can stay in touch through the social media sites listed below.
Access up-to-date information via bulletins, message boards and blogs. Use these networking tools to interact outside of the classroom. You can make connections with others who share your academic interest or social activities or chat with students at other College campuses. The sites are maintained by Palm Beach State's College Relations & Marketing staff.
CREATING A FACEBOOK PAGE FOR YOUR DEPARTMENT
Departments are free to make their own Facebook pages but must have a dedicated person to maintain it. That will include: monitoring, posting, responding, engaging. Student assistants can help, but it's not recommended they be the only one as they will eventually leave and the page will go stale. Facebook is a place where students go and expect answers, so having a staff member dedicated to it is critical. If you do not have someone that will be dedicated to your Facebook page, send information for posting to socialmedia@PalmBeachState.edu and we will post it on the College's FB page.
Naming your page: Be sure to use Palm Beach State or Palm Beach State College in the name of the page (not PBSC) and include your campus, if appropriate - for example Palm Beach State Belle Glade SLC or SLC at Palm Beach State Belle Glade or SLC at Palm Beach State BG.
After you create your page: Once it's set up, send the page link to socialmedia@PalmBeachState.edu and we will link it to the College's FB page to show up as one of our "favorites."
Engage with your community: Now that you've opened up a two-way communication, be sure to stay engaged by replying to comments and commenting on others' content. If you have students with blogs, or see blogs with relevant topics to your area, you can link to them on your page. Most importantly, respond to every comment. If someone "comments" in real life on something you did, you respond. The same goes for the online world.
Tips for interaction: Be yourself, a social human. Be helpful while still trying to educate. If you just post events and bombard your followers with stale information, they will lose interest. Social media is not necessarily about numbers. Create and maintain a conversation with good content and the relationships will develop.
