As a student veteran, you have many VA education benefit options. We’re here to help you understand the ins and outs of how to get the most out of your benefits. PBSC's Veterans Services staff will certify your enrollment and help you every step of the way.

New Student Veterans
Benefit Name How to Apply
Post 9/11GI Bill®
(Chapter 33)
  • Go to the VA website and complete Form 22-1990. The VA wants all veterans to complete the form online.
  • Your Certificate of Eligibility will arrive by mail. 
  • Students must provide PBSC with a copy of the Certificate of Eligibility once received from the VA.
Montgomery GI Bill®
(MGIB Chapters 30 and 1606)
  • Go to the VA website and complete Form 22-1990. The VA wants all veterans to complete the form online.
  • Your Certificate of Eligibility will arrive by mail. 
VA Vocational Rehabilitation
(Chapter 31)
  • The VA will then set up an appointment with your local VA vocational rehabilitation counselor.
Purple Heart Scholarship
  • For qualifying Florida residents who received the Purple Heart or another combat decoration superior in precedence.
In-State Tuition
  • For eligible students seeking to waive out-of-state tuition fees.
 All New Students
  • Military Transcripts: The VA requires all veterans to request their JST or CCAF military transcripts.
  • Discharge Notification: We also request a copy of your DD214.


Established Student Veterans

Post 9/11 GI Bill®
(Chapter 33)
  • Student veterans who have received benefits through Chapter 33, 30 or 1606 must complete Form 22-1995 when transferring from another college.
  • Submit the form to PBSC's Veterans Services Department along with all PBSC-required form(s) and military transcripts: 

                    Military Transcripts: The VA requires all veterans to request their JST or CCAF military transcripts.

                    Discharge Notification: We also request a copy of your DD214.

                    PBSC Form: We ask all veterans to complete the College's Veterans Certification Request form.

PBSC adheres to the regulations issued by ED [Department of Education] (34 C.F.R 668.71-668.75 and 668.14) and to SACSCOC advertising and student recruitment policy.

  • PBSC recruiters do not receive bonuses, or other incentives to recruit students.
  • PBSC college recruiters do not perform high pressure recruitment tactics to secure student enrollments.

Military Tuition Assistance (TA) Benefits Process

Please make sure to call 561-868-3380 or email (CentralVeterans@palmbeachstate.edu) for guidance if you have any questions or difficulties with the instructions below.

Service member should review these resources to make an informed decision.

Visit your military insulation’s education center or branch tuition assistance portal.

Apply and complete the admissions process for Palm Beach State College.

  • Submit residency documents or if you are Active Duty and reside outside the state of Florida, complete the VA/Military out of state fee waiver.
  • Submit transcripts (high school/GED, college and military).

Meet with your campus Veterans Academic Advisor.

Register for courses in your program of study.

Complete your military branch tuition assistance voucher through its respective portal.

Submit your military tuition assistance voucher to the Veterans Success Center (CentralVeterans@palmbeachstate.edu) or directly to the campus cashier’s office.

  • This is the Florida National Guard Tuition Assistance Program.


Dependents
Benefit Name How to Apply
Post 9/11GI Bill®
(Chapter 33)
  • Student dependents who have received Chapter 33 benefits must complete Form 22-1990 E.
  • Submit the form to PBSC's Veterans Services Department along with all PBSC-required form(s).
  • Each term, dependents using GI Bill® benefits must submit PBSC's Veterans Certification Request form. 
Survivors' & Dependents' Educational Assistance
(Chapter 35)
  • Students must go to the VA website and complete Form 22-5490.
  • The VA will then award benefits.
  • Chapter 35-established dependents must fill out Form 22-5495 and submit it to PBSC's Veterans Services Department when transferring from another college.
Fry Scholarship
(Amendment to Post 9/11 GI Bill)
  • Provides education benefits to surviving spouses and children of service members who died in action.  |  Apply Now
Scholarships for Children and Spouses of Deceased or Disabled Veterans (CSDDV) 
  • Provides an education award to dependent children or unremarried spouses of qualified Florida veterans. |  Apply Now

In accordance with Title 38 US Code 3679 subsection (e), this school adopts the following additional provisions for any students using U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Post 9/11 GI Bill® (Ch. 33) or Vocational Rehabilitation & Employment (Ch. 31) benefits, while payment to the institution is pending from the VA.  This school will not:

  • Prevent the student’s enrollment;
  • Assess a late penalty fee to the student;
  • Require the student to secure alternative or additional funding;
  • Deny the student access to any resources (access to classes, libraries, or other institutional facilities) available to other students who have satisfied their tuition and fee bills to the institution.

However, to qualify for this provision, such students may be required to:

  • Produce the VA Certificate of Eligibility (COE) by the first day of class;
  • Provide a written request to be certified;
  • Provide additional information needed to properly certify the enrollment as described in other institutional policies
