PANTHER “BOYS OF SUMMER” CONTINUE 2ND PLACE DEAD HEAT WITH BROWARD
The Panthers Baseball team went 3-2 last week and remained in a dead heat for 2nd place with Broward as the Southern Conference season winds down. Palm Beach State defeated St. Thomas on Monday and split with both Brevard and Broward in games Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. The highlight of the week was JD Underwood's 3 hitter as he defeated Brevard Wednesday 2-1. Underwood pitched a complete game. The Panthers have 8 regular season conference games left before they begin tournament play.

The Men's basketball season came to an abrupt halt at the recently concluded FCSAA/Region 8 State Basketball tournament in Marianna Florida. Palm Beach State was defeated by the #3 ranked team in the country Northwest Florida State 72-64 in the quarterfinals thus ending a remarkable year at 29-3. In his last game for the Panthers, Jonathan Holston again had a double-double with 19 points and 17 rebounds. Holton, who also was awarded All Tournament Selection and All State Selection, will play for Rick Pitino's son at Florida International University next season. The Panthers had the highest national ranking in the school's history when they climbed to #2 in mid-season and also collected the best overall record ever in their quest for the elusive state tournament title. Palm Beach State College ended up ranked #14 in the country. George “Butch” Estes has taken the Panthers to 3 consecutive “Elite 8” tournaments.
The Panther women were ousted in the first round of the FCSAA/Region 8 State tournament in Marianna, Florida March 6, 83-66 against Northwest Florida State. March 17, 2013
It was a difficult week for the Panther baseball team. For the most part, the bats went silent and Palm Beach suffered something they have not been through in over 2 years, they lost 4 in a row. On Tuesday and Wednesday, the Panthers were defeated by conference foe Broward 5-3 and 6-0 to even their conference record at 4-4. Palm Beach had a chance to get back into the conference race Friday and Saturday when they went up against the #1 ranked team in the State/#3 in the country, Miami Dade, but came up just a little bit short losing 4-3 on Friday and 6-5 on Saturday. The Panthers did show some life in the Saturday Miami Dade game when they were down 6-1 in the ninth - their bats came alive and they plated 4 runs to get to 6-5. However, with 2 on and nobody out, Palm Beach could not get the tying run across - which has been the case in their up and down season. With the week's losses, the "Boy of Summer" are now 19-12 on the season and 4-6 in the conference. They resume conference play on Tuesday against Indian River State.
Palm Beach State softball split a pair of double headers last week as they defeated Kishwaukee College 9-0 and 5-1 on Monday March 11 to gain their 5th and 6th wins of the year. On Wednesday March 13, the #1 team in the country - Indian River State College out of Ft. Pierce - visited the Panthers and the Panthers were no match for the Pioneers on this day as they were defeated 11-1 and 13-1. Palm Beach State currently stands at 6-30 overall and 1-3 in the Southern conference.
March 12, 2013
After a slow start the Panthers have gained some momentum as they defeated both Indian River and Brevard this past week to take a 4 game winning streak into today's contest against Broward. Palm Beach currently stands at 19-8 overall and 4-2 in the Southern Conference 1 game back of first place Miami Dade. In addtion, the Panthers had Mike Stemle (FCSAA Player of the Week) and Ryan Pistey (Pitcher of the Week) awarded for the period February 25 - March 3. Stemle hit .706 (12-17) during that time with 7 RBI's and Pistey pitched a complete game shutout as the Panthers defeated Indian River on March 2.
After a horrendous non-conference beginning, the Panther women's softball team has won 3 of their last 4 splitting with Broward in conference play and defeating Kishwaukee (Il) in a twin bill 9-0 and 5-1. In so doing, the Panthers moved their Southern Conference record to 1-1 and their overall record to 6-28. Palm Beach State will continue conference play Wednesday March 13 when they face national power Indian River in a twin bill beginning at 5pm on the John Anderson Softball Complex.
