The Statewide Course Numbering System (SCNS) has been set up by the Florida Department of Education to assist colleges in assigning course identification numbers to similar classes at all public and many private higher education institutions across the state. Having this system in place helps to assure the transferability of courses between participating institutions. In other words, a college algebra class at Palm Beach State will be accepted for credit as a college algebra class at not only a state university but also other Florida public community colleges and participating private institutions, as well.
A more detailed explanation of the SCNS can be found in the Palm Beach State College catalog.
The SCNS website is located at http://scns.fldoe.org/. From that page, you can find information on course numbers and offerings, descriptions and disciplines statewide. In addition, you can run reports and generate course inventories for classes at participating institutions.
This short tutorial will give you a brief introduction on how to locate courses through the SCNS website.
