The Higher Education Act of 2008
Under the Higher Education Act of 2008, Teacher Preparation Programs have specific compliance components. The act builds upon efforts to develop close alignment between school districts and departments of education at colleges and universities that offer teacher training.
The act requires each college or university that receives federal student aid and that operates a teacher preparation program to develop, on an annual basis, quantifiable goals for increasing the number of high need teachers, as designated by the secretary of education.
Teacher Preparation Programs must also submit to their state a report showing the pass rate on state licensure and certification tests of their completers.
The Teacher Certification Program within the Institute of Teacher Education at Palm Beach State College is an alternate certification program and complies with the requirements of this bill.
