Child Care providers serving children birth to 5 years old must complete: Part I: Rules and Regulation-Center Based, Part II: Introduction to Child Care Worker Certification, Part III: 10-Hour Developmentally Appropriate Practice and 5-Hour Emergent Literacy course***. Part I, II, and III requires that the participant pass a competency exam with a score of 70% or higher given by Department of Children & Families.
Part I - Rules and Regulation-Center Based (HEV 0114)
This course fulfills Part I of III Parts required to complete the 40-Hour Introductory Child Care Training mandated by the Department of Children and Families for Child Care workers. This course is designed to give child care facility providers an overview of state and local rules and regulations that govern the child care industry. Syllabus: Rules & Regulations-Center
Part II - Introduction to Child Care Worker Certification (HEV 0115)
This course fulfills Part II of III Parts required to complete the 40-Hour Introductory Child Care Training mandated by the Department of Children and Families for Child Care workers. This course combines the Introductory Child Care training with the 10-Hour Behavioral Observation and Screening component for a total of 24 hours of training. This course provides training on identifying and reporting child abuse and neglect; health, safety and nutrition; child growth and development as well as behavioral observation and screening techniques. Part III - 10-Hour Appropriate Practices
These courses complete Part III of the 40-Hour Introductory Child Care Training mandated by the Department of Children and Families for child care worker certification necessary for employment in a licensed child care facility. Choose from one of the following components:
Infant/Toddler Appropriate Practices (HEV 0106)
Preschool Appropriate Practices** (HEV 0167)
Special Needs Appropriate Practices (HEV0123)
School-Age Appropriate Practices (HEV 0198)
**Please note: The 10-Hour Preschool Appropriate Practices is required for students interested in participating in the Early Childhood Professional Certification (ECPC) program.
***Please note: The 5-Hour Emergent Literacy course is offered online at www.myflorida.com/childcare.
DCF Registration & Compentency Exam Information:
Taking one of the state-mandated child care training courses requires that you also register for your course in the DCF database system. This ensures that there is an official record of your taking the class. Registration for this class needs to be completed by your second class session (or before). This is the first out of class assignment and students will be required to show proof of DCF registration by the second class session. Note: if your class only meets once you will need to complete this process and submit proof of registration at the first class session.
At this point you will be prompted to enter your personal information. Then, under Course Reference Number, enter your Palm Beach State College reference # and click Find.
Your registration process is now complete. Note: You do not pay for this course through the DCF system, you pay for it through the college's Panther Web.
