Child Care providers serving children birth to 5 years old must complete:
*Part I: Rules and Regulations-Center Based
*Part II: Introduction to Child Care Worker Certification
*Part III:  (Option I) 5-Hour Understanding Developmentally Appropriate Practices and 5-Hour Student Specialty or (Option II) 10-Hour Special Needs Appropriate Practices.  The 5-Hour Emergent Literacy is also required.

Part I - Rules and Regulation-Center Based (HEV0114)  Syllabus
This course fulfills Part I of III Parts required to complete the 40-Hour Introductory Child Care Training mandated by the Department of Children and Families for Child Care workers. 

Part II - Introduction to Child Care Worker Certification (HEV0115)  Syllabus
This course fulfills Part II of III Parts required to complete the 40-Hour Introductory Child Care Training mandated by the Department of Children and Families for Child Care workers. Combining Introductory Child Care training with 10-hour Behavioral Observation and Screening components.

Part III -Developmentally Appropriate Practices (HEV0004)  Syllabus
These courses complete Part III of the 40-Hour Introductory Child Care Training mandated by the Department of Children and Families for child care worker certification necessary for employment in a licensed child care facility.

Part III has two different options:

(Option I)

Part I: Complete: HEV0004-Understanding Developmentally Appropriate Practices (5 hrs.)
Syllabus
UDAP is the topic of this 5 hour component and designed for child care professional responsible for the care of children from birth through school age. This course provides caregivers with an overview of what Developmentally Appropriate Practices (DAP) is and why it is important to practitioners in the field.

Part II: Register for one of the 5-hour components below:

  • HEV0001-Infant/Toddler Appropriate Practices (5 hrs.) Syllabus
    Infant/Toddlers Appropriate Practices is designed for the child care professionals responsible for the care of children birth through 36 months. 
    Note: This course is required for students interested in participating in the Caring for Children Birth to 3 Years (FCCPC)

  • HEV0002-Preschool Appropriate Practices (5 hrs.) Syllabus
    Preschool Appropriate Practices is designed for child care professional responsible for the care of children 3 to 5 years old.
    Note: This course is required for students interested in participating in the Early Childhood Professional Certificate (ECPC)

  • HEV0003-School Age Appropriate Practices (5Hrs.) Syllabus
    School Age Appropriate Practices is designed for child care professionals responsible for the care of children 5 to 12 years old. 

OR

(Option II)
HEV0123-Special Needs Appropriate Practices (10 hrs.) 
Syllabus
Developmentally appropriate practices for children with special needs is the topic of this 10-hour component. The course covers the signs of a typical child's development, the way to successfully include children with special needs into the preschool setting, and developmentally learning environments for children with special needs.

 

Part I, II and III requires that the participant pass a competency exam with score of 70% or higher given by Department of Children and Families.  DCF Information
