Florida Child Care Professional Credential (FCCPC)

Program Objective Code: 5390

"Caring for Children Birth to Three Years Old"

Students who successfully complete the Florida Child Care Professional Credential (FCCPC), Caring for Children Birth to Three Years Old program and work with children birth to three years old in a licensed child care facility will be awarded a staff credential issued by the Florida Department of Children and Families. This program also prepares students for the National CDA Credential. For information on applying for the National CDA Credential please visit their website at www.cdacouncil.org.

This program is divided into three modules covering the eight content areas for the Florida Child Care Professional Credential (FCCPC) in which a student must demonstrate competence.

Overview

Program Description
The Florida Child Care Professional Credential (FCCPC) program includes 120 hours of infant/toddler specialized coursework, a resource file and professional portfolio and a two hour on-site observation during Module III in an infant/toddler setting. Upon completion of the program the student will be awarded a Florida Child Care Professional Credential (FCCPC) - staff credential from the Florida Department of Children and Families.


Admission Requirements

The following admission requirements must be met before registering for FCCPC program.

Requirements:

  • Apply for Admissions to Palm Beach State College at www.palmbeachstate.edu/admissions
  • Program Objective Code: 5390: “Caring for Children Birth to Three Years Old”
  • FCCPC Information Session
  • 40-Hour Introductory Child Care Training including 5-Hour Understanding Developmentally Appropriate Practices and 5-Hour Infant/Toddler Appropriate Practices (All DCF Exams must be passed)
  • 5-Hour DCF Emergent Literacy Course
  • Official High School transcripts (or equivalent)
  • Employed in a licensed child care setting or a licensed family child care home working with children 5 years or younger (preferably birth-3 years of age) - volunteering is not accepted.
  • TABE Exam (9D Survey) www.palmbeachstate.edu/Testing
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Mastery of the English language

Financial assistance is available for many of the child care courses offered at Palm Beach State College through the SEEK and TEACH scholarships.

SEEK Scholarship Eligibility requirements:

  • Employed at any early childhood program in Palm Beach County that receives public funding (i.e., school readiness, VPK, Head Start) and working directly with children ages 0–5 years
  • Active member of the Palm Beach County Early Childhood Registry www.pbcregistry.org

TEACH Early Childhood Scholarship Eligibility requirements:

Child care center teachers, directors, owners and family child care providers may be eligible for a scholarship if they:

  • Are a Florida resident
  • Have a high school diploma from an accredited high school or GED
  • Are employed by a licensed or license-exempt child care facility
  • Work a minimum of 20 hours per week in a classroom with a birth through Pre-K population (directors are exempt from the "classroom" portion of this requirement)
  • Have the sponsorship of the program which employs them
  • Work a minimum of 520 hours per year

Students who earn a “Caring For Children Birth to Three Years Old” (FCCPC) credential, have completed 15 college credits at Palm Beach State College towards their degree and have declared a program objective code of 2358 (Associate in Science Degree – Early Childhood Education), may be eligible for articulation into 9 college credits upon request. The credits will be for the following courses: EEC2734, EEC2271 and CHD1220.

Many programs have transfer agreements with other colleges and universities that allow students to transfer course or program credit into a four-year program. For information on transfer agreements visit www.palmbeachstate.edu/Transfer.
