NEW FINANCIAL AID POLICY NOTIFICATION
Effective with the 2013 spring term, FEDERAL financial aid will pay only for courses that are required for a student’s degree or eligible certificate program.
Federal regulations state:
“If a student is enrolled in courses that do not count toward his/her degree, they cannot be used to determine enrollment status unless they are eligible remedial courses. [Institutions] cannot award student aid for classes that do not count toward the degree or certificate.”
2012-13 FSA Handbook, Vol 1, Ch 1, page 14
Courses taken in excess of degree requirements, or courses not required for the degree or certificate, will not be considered when determining enrollment status for disbursement of federal financial aid (Pell, SEOG, work-study and loans).
If you are uncertain about courses that apply toward your Program Objective, you should review your degree audit on PantherWeb.
If you need to change your Program Objective for the spring term, go to the Admissions Office. However, before making a change, you may want to consult your campus advisor to be sure you have correctly identified either your program objective or your transfer institution and degree program. A visit to the Career Center also may be helpful.
Please note that this only affects FEDERAL financial aid, not campus or state funds.
If you have a question about this communication, please contact your campus financial aid office.
