Summer Youth College - Lake Worth Campus

The Summer Youth Arts Program has joined Summer Youth College!

Mandatory Student Registration Forms (COMING SOON) MUST be completed and turned in on the student's first day of the program.  
Student's will not be permitted to attend without them. 

2018 SYC Workshops

It Figures

  • Contour Line / Gesture Drawing
    • Introduce students to artists who use line work and/or gesture in their work.
    • Still life for contour line, line variation, pattern, composition (foreground, middle-ground and background) & gesture drawing.
    • Experiment with students posing for 30 sec. to 1 minute for figural gesture drawing practice.
  • Still Life / Figure Drawing
    • Introduce students to artists known for still life and for figure drawing.
    • Still life for first half of the week.
    • Students to pose for short periods of time for figure drawing, as well as using the skeleton and ceramic busts.

 

What A Character

  • Manga & Anime
    • Introduce students to the concept of Manga & Anime.
    • Have students write down a few of their favorite thing to do
      • Adjective/descriptive word
      • Place (real or imaginary)
      • Color
      • Pattern
      • Name
    • Have students create their own Manga & Anime, based on the above.
    • This can also be a group project where students can collaborate on a single storyboard.

  • Cartooning & Storyboarding
    • Introduce students to the concept of cartooning and storyboarding.
    • Have students write down a few of their favorite:
      • Thing to do
      • Adjective/descriptive word
      • Place (real or imaginary)
      • Color
      • Pattern
      • Name
    • Have students create their own cartoons, based on the above.
    • This can also be a group project where students can collaborate on a single storyboard.

Kiln it!

  • Pottery
    • Introduce students to sculptors.
    • Brief overview of how to use air drying clay.
    • Modeling:
      • Set up still life and have students model the still life out of clay.
      • Once dry students may paint their sculptures.
  • Printmaking
    • Introduce students to printmakers.
    • Overview on how to create a linocut print.
    • Set up still life, and/or have printed images of flowers/nature, animals. Students can then draw what they’d like on a sheet of paper, they will then transfer onto the linoleum block.

Paint The Town

  • Painting with Watercolors & Acrylics
    • Introduce students to known watercolorists.
    • Brief overview of how to use watercolor paint, layering, adding water to create different opacity/transparency.
    • Still life using watercolors.
  • Landscape & Abstract Painting
    • Introduce students to artists who are known for landscape painting and abstract painting.
    • Brief introduction to painting, and color.
    • Primary/Secondary
      • Mixing color to create different colors.
      • Adding Black (shade)
      • Adding White (tint)
    • We will do Master Copies of famous landscape & abstract paintings.

 
Art Workshop Instructors

BAK School of the Arts Preparatory Workshop

  • $540 for 3 weeks
  • Dates: TBA
  • Limited spots available
  • Registration for these workshops is NOT an open registration. 
  • Admission to this workshop is by review of the child's current artwork.
  • This course is for students ages 8 - 10 years old.
  • This course will provide foundation Concepts of 2D Art, Understanding Black and White Media, Still Life Drawing, Drawing from Observation to prepare students for the BAK School of the Arts try outs.

Dreyfoos School of the Arts Preparatory Workshop

  • $540 for 3 weeks
  • Dates: TBA
  • Limited spots available
  • Registration for these workshops is NOT an open registration. 
  • Admission to this workshop is by review of the child's current artwork.
  • This course is for students ages 11 - 14 years old.
  • This course will provide foundation Concepts of 2D Art, Contour & Gesture Drawing to prepare students for the Dreyfoos School of the Arts try outs.

Masters Of Band Camp $250 per week

  • The Palm Beach State College Summer Youth Band Camp provides a safe, positive and challenging learning environment for students between the ages of 12 and 18 years old. Students will receive individual sectional instructions to promote advancement of techniques related for woodwind, brass, and percussion students along with marching fundamentals and musicianship outdoors at the full and large family ensemble levels. Students will experience a safe, positive and challenging learning environment at PBSC Summer Youth Band Camp.

Beginning Drumline $155 per week

  • Ages 12 - 18

  • This workshop provides an introduction to Drumline and centers around techniques related to Snare Drum, Tenor Drums, Bass Drums and Front Ensemble. Throughout the week campers will refine basics in hand position, stick height/placement and rudimental methods.

Advanced Drumline $155 per week

  • Ages 12 - 18

  • This is an advanced Drumline workshop that centers around techniques related to Snare Drum, Tenor Drums, Bass Drums and Front Ensemble. Throughout the week campers will refine basics in hand position, stick height/placement and rudimental methods.

Quiet On The Set!

This is a practical workshop in film television and video production.
Each week the children will be working in groups to write and produce their own films.  

They begin the film making process by:

  • Brainstorm ideas
  • Write scripts
  • Create storyboards
  • Scout locations
  • Edit their films by adding special effects and music 

Then they will bring their wondrous tales to life on screen.  Films will be uploaded to our YouTube page the following week for your viewing pleasure!!

Say Cheese!

  • Students between the ages of 8 - 14 years old.
  • The goal of the Photography Workshop at Palm Beach State College is to teach students the Art of Photography.  To teach them new skills in shooting and modern photographic technique. We will give them the tools to learn how to harness the power of their imaginations by digitally manipulating the photos. Each week we will review the basics and learn new things so there is no limit to how much the students can gain from the program.

Oh The Drama *NEW    

  • Students between the ages of 8 - 14 years old.
  • This Workshop will develop and enhance each student’s unique theatrical ability.Students will be given a head start in acting, performance, developing characters, scene study and improvisation, memory and listening skills will be enhanced through improvisation techniques and games.

No More Pencils

  • Adobe Illustrator  June 4 - June 14, 2018
  • This course is for students ages 10 - 16 years old.
  • This course provides a comprehensive overview of illustration software using Adobe Illustrator as applied to the Macintosh computer. The course covers various methods of creating and editing objects and paths as well as integrating designs with images and text

Manipulation Nation

  • Adobe Photoshop June 18 - June 28, 2018
  • This course is for students ages 10 - 16 years old.
  • This course provides a comprehensive overview of digital image editing software using Adobe Photoshop as applied to the Macintosh computer giving them the opportunity to advance their design skills. The course covers the implementation of basic creative options such as image creation and manipulation, color correction, and retouching through the use of layers and various selection methods.

Digital Arts $570 for 4 weeks

  • Adobe Photoshop June 4 - June 28, 2018
  • This course is for students ages 10 - 16 years old.
  • This course combines No More Pencils & Manipulation Nation into one 4 week course at a discounted price.

Design Of The Times

  • Graphic Design  July 2 - July 12, 2018
  • This course is for students ages 10 - 16 years old.
  • This course provides an introduction to graphic design using the visual elements and principles of design, including visual communication utilization of symbols, knowledge of tools and layout procedures is provided.

Put It On The Web

  • Web Design July 16 - July 26, 2018
  • This course is for students ages 10 - 16 years old.
  • The student will start with web graphics and web layout and learn to make backgrounds, buttons, and banners to use on their pages. A special emphasis will be placed on interactivity design and page layout, the proper use of typography and images for delivery on the Internet. The student will be introduced to the most recent applications for web page production and editing and a consideration of various platforms for designing web pages. More complex problems of web architecture and planning, FTP and web site maintenance will be used to develop a professional web site. By the end of the course, the student will have completed an entire web site which they can put on the World Wide Web.

Web & Graphic Design $570 for 4 weeks

  • Adobe Photoshop July 2 - July 26, 2018
  • This course is for students ages 10 - 16 years old.
  • This course combines Design Of The Times & Put It On The Web into one 4 week course at a discounted price.

  • Students between the ages of 10 - 16 years old.
  • This course teaches techniques in 3D computer graphics and animation. Students are introduced to the theory, mechanics, techniques, and design principles used to create believable artificial characters. Additional topics include modeling, texturing, rigging, animation movements, motion backgrounds, and 3D character development.

Before Care  

  • 7:00 am – 9:00 am
  • $25 EACH per week
  • If your child is dropped off prior to 9:00 am, they will be placed in the Before Care program and you will be responsible for the cost.
  • Open to all students registered in the Summer Youth College.
  • The price is for Before Care OR After Care and must be purchased for the entire week.  Daily pricing is not available.

After Care

  • 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm
  • $25 EACH per week
  • If your child is not picked up by 4:00 pm, they will be placed in the After Care program and you will be responsible for the cost.
  • If your child is not picked up by 5:30, you will be charges $1 per minute.
  • Open to all students registered in the Summer Youth College.
  • The price is for Before Care OR After Care and must be purchased for the entire week.  Daily pricing is not available.

SYC Program Details

 Workshops must be purchased in 2 week blocks.  

  • Each block is $310. ($155 per week) 
  • Purchase 2, 2 week blocks (4 weeks) and get a discount! 2 blocks is $570. ($142.50 per week)
  • Before Care & After Care may be purchased by the week.

Specialty Camps prices:

  • School of the Arts Preparatory Workshops is $180 per week.
  • 3D Digital Animation is $1240 for 8 weeks.
  • Band Camp  $250 per week.

Age Requirements: 8 – 18 years old. Ages vary by workshop.

Program Length: 8 weeks, 31 days total

Program Days: Full day, Monday - Thursday, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm  (Closed Fridays and Wednesday, July 4th)

Before Care: 7:00 am - 9:00 am

After Care: 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm

Lunch: Lunch can be purchased through the College Cafe' for a special SYC price of $5.50 or students can bring NUT FREE lunch from home.  Payment MUST be made using the college PantherCard.
