Academic Committees and Councils

Academic Deans' Council
Assists the VPAA in the development, implementation and evaluation of procedures, programs, and processes that pertain to curriculum, faculty, and academic support services.

Academic Leadership Council
Assists the VPAA in the development and evaluation of all academic matters, including curriculum, schedules, and support services.

Academic Program Management Council
RESPONSIBLE DEPARTMENT: VPAA and Academic Services

Catalog Committee
Provides oversight and direction for the development of the annual College Catalog. Responsible for planning of catalog contents, organization, creation and production in the print and electronic environments.

Classroom Observation Ad Hoc Committee

Curriculum Committee
This committee oversees curriculum changes and/or development with the Dean of Curriculum, Planning, and Research serving as liaison with the State Course Number System and monitoring the college catalog content related to curriculum.

eLearning Advisory Committee
This committee provides recommendations for Academic policies and procedures for distance learning, training and program development, as well as the vision and direction for distance learning and integration of technology in the classroom.

Educational Leave (Non-Faculty) Committee
Reviews applications from non-faculty and recommends to Human Resources those to be considered for educational leave.

Faculty Cluster Committees
All faculty are members of a faculty cluster, where faculty meet with peer discipline faculty and discuss all matters related to student performance, textbook selection, course and program development, course revisions and all other matters pertaining to teaching and learning.

Faculty Promotion Committee
Reviews requests for promotion of faculty who have been recommended for advancement in rank by the faculty member's supervisor and whose requirements have been verified by Human Resources.

General Education Ad Hoc Committee
Reviews the general education philosophy, learning outcomes and courses included in the General Education Requirements for Bachelors and Associate degrees.

General Education Assessment Committee
The mission of the General Education Assessment Committee is to promote, support and monitor academic assessment activities at the College, as they relate to general education, and to provide quality faculty development for new and experienced faculty and instructors. This committee will utilize assessment results, faculty and instructor interests, as well as new emerging scholarships, to create faculty development opportunities, including Academic Development Days.

Honors College Advisory Committee
Provides direction for the development and implementation of an Honors program and courses, guidelines for Honors projects, and standards for student registration and exit from Honors courses. Makes recommendations to the VPAA in matters concerning the Honors College at PBCC.

Joint Deans Council
Addresses issues and coordinates activities which affect the areas of Academic Affairs, Student Services, and Corporate & Continuing Education.
RESPONSIBLE DEPARTMENT: VPAA and VPSS

Program Assessment Committee
The mission of this committee is to promote, support and monitor the assessment activities of the college's career-oriented programs.  Assessment measures include Program Health Indicators, Program Learning Outcomes, Perkins Accountability Performance and other measures deemed appropriate by the committee.  The committee will devise and oversee a comprehensive Program Review Process.
MEMBERSHIP:  Associate Deans (required of all Associate Deans), Manager of Outcomes Assessment and other administrators.
MEETING SCHEDULE:   Approximately once per month.  When possible, meetings will occur the same day as Academic Leadership Council meetings.

QEP Advisory Council
This council provides feedback regarding QEP implementation and makes recommendations for improvement to the QEP manager.  Council members also participate in facilitating QEP-related activities.

QEP Implementation Committee
This team works closely with the QEP manager and assists with all aspects of QEP implementation.  Specific duties will include development and facilitation of faculty and staff workshops, a student awareness campaign, materials, resources, and assessment instruments.

Staff & Program Development Committee (Academic Affairs)
Reviews all requests for S&PD funds submitted by Academic Affairs departments and makes recommendations for funding to the VPAA.

Strategic Planning Team
A broad-based planning team that developed the foundation of the College's Strategic Plan including the Mission, Objectives, and recommendations to the President's Staff, President, and Board of Trustees.

Academic Affairs Ad Hoc Committees
In addition to service on standing committees, Palm Beach State College faculty participates in ad hoc committees which are formed to address academic, or other issues which may arise.  These committees make recommendations with regard to disposition of the issue raised.
