Special training geared to SWA-WTE construction

Palm Beach State College will offer a course in "Form and Concrete Carpentry" to prepare prospective candidates for upcoming job opportunities in the Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County's Waste to Energy Project.

The course is offered in concert with a partnership established by Babcock & Wilcox and BE&K/KBR to assist local persons to prepare for hundreds of construction trade jobs that will be available in the building of this new facility. Competencies and desired certifications required by BE&K/KBR will be provided through the use of National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) curriculum.  Students successfully completing the course will receive NCCER credentials.

The 390-hour course covers training in skills specific to form and concrete carpentry.  It will begin Sept. 26 and end in time for the start of the SWA project in the spring or early summer of 2012. Classes will meet at the Lake Worth campus three times a week: Monday and Wednesdays from 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
