| Program Description |
This PSAV program fulfills the child care training required by the Florida Department of Children and Families for child care providers working in a licensed child care facility. Child care providers serving children birth to 5 years old must complete: Part I Rules and Regulation-Center Based, Part II Introduction to Child Care Worker Certification, and Part III 10-Hour Component.
PART I – RULES AND REGULATION-CENTER BASED This course fulfills Part I of three parts required to complete the 40-Hour Introductory Child Care Training mandated by the Department of Children and Families for child care workers. This course is designed to give child care facility providers an overview of state and local rules and regulations that govern the child care industry. It does not offer a formal award.
PART II – INTRODUCTION TO CHILD CARE WORKER CERTIFICATION This course fulfills Part II of three parts required to complete the 40-Hour Introductory Child Care Training mandated by the Department of Children and Families for child care workers. This course combines the Introductory Child Care training with the 10-Hour Behavioral Observation and Screening component for a total of 24 hours of training. This course provides training on identifying and reporting child abuse and neglect; health, safety, and nutrition; child growth and development as well as behavioral observation and screening techniques.
PART III – 10-HOUR APPROPRIATE PRACTICES These courses complete Part III of the 40-Hour Introductory Child Care Training mandated by the Department of Children and Families for child care worker certification necessary for employment in a licensed child care facility. This component includes appropriate practices for preschool, school-age children, infants and toddlers and children with special needs. It does not offer a formal award.
**Please note: The 10-Hour Preschool Appropriate Practices is required for students interested in participating in the Early Childhood Professional Certificate (ECPC).

| Admission Requirements |
Students must complete College Application (www.palmbeachstate.edu/admissions.xml). No high school diploma (or equivalent) is required.
After registering and paying the applicable tuition fee students must ALSO register for the class on the Department of Children and Families Web site: www.myflorida.com/childcare/training. For additional information regarding scheduling the exam, visit www.palmbeachstate.edu/childcare.xml (select Child Care Exam).

| Completion Requirements |
Students are required to successfully pass with a score of 70 percent or better the state-mandated competency tests to be awarded their child care certification to work in a licensed child care facility.
