Math Anxiety is defined as a feeling of tension and apprehension that will interfere with the manipulation of numbers and the solving of mathematical problems in a variety of academic and ordinary life situations.
Math Anxiety can cause students to perform poorly in math courses and to have difficulty in situations that involve mathematical processes. Often times, poor performance in math is not related to how much the student knows, however it is the result of Math Anxiety.
Having Math Anxiety does not mean that a student is mentally incapable of solving mathematical problems. However, it can cause a student to loose confidence in mathematical situations and have an impact on their future success with mathematical tasks.
