The Vocational Preparatory Instruction Lab (VPI) offers a series of short-term courses with a lab component for Post Secondary Adult Vocational (PSAV) students who wish to remediate for all or part of the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE). The TABE remediation courses cover many of the skills needed to pass the TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills) and the NFSI (National Firefighter Selection Inventory) test. Students are advised to allow sufficient time to remediate and pass all required tests to ensure that these requirements are met well before important deadlines or graduation.
The VPI Lab provides personalized, small group instruction in an informal setting. Computer programs and additional learning materials are used along with direct teaching by a learning specialist. Tutors and additional resources are also available.
Before registering for a TABE remediation course, students must first meet with a PSAV advisor to discuss the entry requirements for their PSAV program. There is a $30 fee for each TABE remediation course. A required workbook for each course is available in the bookstore.
