Welcome from the Provost

Dr. HardneyWelcome to the Belle Glade campus of Palm Beach State College, serving the western and "Glades area" communities of Palm Beach county and home to the Sugar Technology Institute (STI) and the Dolly Hand Cultural Arts Center.

The Belle Glade campus offers credit courses that fulfill the general education requirements for the A.A., A.S. (including Nursing), and B.A.S. degrees, as well as PSAV certificates and non-credit courses to meet the corporate and small business training needs, including health care. In addition to classes at the Belle Glade campus, students may take advantage of online learning opportunities and classes offered through our partners at Wellington High School, Seminole Ridge High School, and Royal Palm Beach High School.

Come watch us grow, and grow GREEN in "the Glades"! The Belle Glade campus is the site of Palm Beach State's new Technical Education Center (TEC). It is the College's first building constructed entirely to the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards of the U.S. Green Building Council, and opened its doors to students Fall term of 2010. The College has applied for gold-level LEED certification. This new facility will help us accommodate growth in the construction trade programs, including welding, as well as Criminal Justice, and Cosmetology. Introduced for the first time this year, students in construction trades will have an opportunity to complete internships in "green" or "LEED" construction management techniques.

One of the newest programs at Palm Beach State College includes the Sugar Technology Institute, an interdisciplinary program that combines academics with "green technologies" that are an integral part of the sugar industry. The College offers a Sugar Technology Associate degree, a certificate in Sugar Technology Milling, as well as a certificate in Sugar Technology Processing. These options are also available to high school students considering dual enrollment. The sugar industry is experiencing phenomenal growth on an international scale, and Sugar Technology students can graduate with skills that provide a foundation in Florida's vast sugar industry, with options to expand into emerging fields such as robotics, automated production and computer imaging technologies, renewal energy, and environmental studies.

Located in the Lake Region on Palm Beach County's other coast, the Glades area includes the neighboring communities of Pahokee, South Bay and Canal Point, and is a leader in agriculture-based businesses that support the sugar production industry, and other major domestic crops, such as corn, rice, and other leafy crops. For those who enjoy the great outdoors, nearby Lake Okeechobee offers a chance for sport fishing, boating, and stunning views of Florida's wide-ranging wildlife and flora along the rim canal.

Whether you prefer a virtual or traditional learning environment, we hope your educational and leisure plans will lead you to the Belle Glade campus of Palm Beach State College!

Welcome to the Glades!

Dr. Marcia Hardney, Provost
