To earn an A.S. Degree in Environmental Science Here is what you should know…
- The A.S. (Associate in Science) is generally your standard, community college, terminal 2-year degree. However, Palm Beach State and Barry University in Miami Shores, Florida have teamed up with a 2+2 articulation agreement allowing for ease in transferability from the Palm Beach State A.S. program to Barry University's Environmental Science 4 year program. Basically you earn your first two years at Palm Beach State and then transfer to Barry University for the remaining two years. If you are interested in a different 4 year institution other than Barry University, you will need to pursue the A.A. (Associate in Arts) degree in Environmental Science from Palm Beach State. For more information regarding other 4-year Environmental Science institutions, click on the link A.A. degree in Environmental Science.
- The A.S. degree is one cornerstone of this program, and much of the program is oriented toward this degree.
- The A.S. degree involves extensive training in the Environmental Sciences as well as in General Education.
- The A.S. degree can be completed in two years or less if you take summer courses and are a full-time student.
- College credit courses taken elsewhere usually count toward Palm Beach State degrees. Evaluation is required. Credit is not given for life experience or non-college-credit certifications.
Here is what you must do…
- Contact the Environmental Science Program Dept. Chair, Professor Jessica Miles and a Palm Beach State Advisor early in your A.S. degree program. This is critical.
- Complete the Palm Beach State College Environmental Science Technology A.S.-required courses (which includes General Education credits). For a complete listing of General education courses please visit; General Education Requirements as listed in the current Palm Beach State Catalog. Because there are conflicting indications in older documents, use the newest Catalog as your guide with updates from the Department. Please note that in completing the A.S. degree you need to complete all courses listed for the department but not necessarily complete all those classes listed under the General Education Requirements. A complete Environmental Science Technology A.S. degree, composed of required courses and electives, is a total of 64 credit hours.
