Palm Beach State College Wireless Laptop Checkout
Please read the Online Acceptable Use Policy.
Individual computer workstations with Internet access are available on the the Library. Microsoft Office is available for student use, and all desktop computers have floppy, CD/RW and DVD drives.

PAWS Wireless Laptop Checkout
As a component of the College's FREE student wireless access program, laptop computers are now available for loan from the LLRC’s at all campuses with the exception of the Boca Raton Campus where they are available at the SLC department. The laptops are for academic purposes only.

Guidelines
Laptop Circulation- Laptops may be checked out and returned to the LLRC department at the PBG, LW & BG campuses and at the SLC at the Boca Raton Campus.

Additionally the borrower is required to:
  • Check out the laptop using a valid Student ID/ library card and to provide a second current photo ID, such as a driver’s license.
  • Sign the wireless laptop loan statement that acknowledges the borrower’s responsibility for loss or damage.
  • Inspect the laptop for obvious physical damage.
  • Be present at the time of inspection by LLRC personnel
FAQ's
Q. How long may I check it out for?
A. 3 hours.

Q. Is there a fine if I don’t return it on time?
A. $5 per hour

Q. Can I reserve a laptop in advance?
A. No.

Q. Where can I use the laptop?
A. Anywhere on campus (the equipment must not leave the campus where it was checked out).

Q. Can I access the Internet?
A. Yes. The college has wireless hotspots throughout the LLRC, cafeteria and other locations on each campus (see Wireless Help).

Q. Am I responsible for theft or damage to the laptop?
A. Yes. A replacement charge of up to $2000.00 may be charged for loss or damage. You should protect the notebook as though it were your purse or ATM card. Do not leave it unattended anywhere including in the LLRC, SLC or anywhere else on campus.

Q. Why would I want to use a wireless computer?
A. You can use them to write papers, research, check e-mail, etc… anywhere on campus.

Q What software is already loaded into laptop?
A. Windows XP, Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Internet Explorer, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, Adobe Acrobat Reader 6.0,Winzip, Other TBD

Q. Can I watch a movie or listen to music?
A. Yes. The laptops have DVD drives. As a courtesy to others, please use a headset (a standard jack is included on all notebooks PCs).

Q. How do I save my work?
A. Each notebook has a USB port and CDRW that can be used to save your work. The college bookstore carries compatible media for saving to these devices.

Q. Where are the hotspot locations?
A. Link to maps @ each campus.

Q. How do I print materials?
A. Save to disk and print anywhere on campus.

Q. May I add other software?
A. No. Installation of software is prohibited.

Q. May I use my own laptop in the LLRC, SLC @ Boca or on campus?
A. Yes. Any registered Palm Beach State student may access the college’s wireless network (instructions on gaining access are available in the LLRC or SLC @ Boca and via the College’s website.


Q. Where can I buy a compatible notebook?
A. The College has a relationship with the supplier of the notebooks loaned through the LLRC and the SLC @ Boca and they will be on campus during the semester with special discounts for Palm Beach State students.
