Things to expect when going to college
This blog post is for students who are new to the college environment.
I wanted to tell you about a few things you can do to ensure your success at Palm Beach State College. The first thing is to speak with an admissions representative, as he or she will be able to guide you through the process of gathering the materials needed to apply.
Once you are finished with admissions, the next thing you are going to want to fill out is your FASFA which stands for Free Application for Federal Student Aid. However, the best part is that at Palm Beach State College, the admissions and financial aid offices are under the same roof making it a one stop shop for students.
You may not be able to get everything done in one day, but don’t be discouraged. You are already taking the first step to fulfill your dreams. This may be just to get an Associate in Science degree or to achieve your bachelor’s degree, both of which are offered at PBSC. This may seem rather easy, however, sometimes it takes a little time so don’t get discouraged. Another thing to remember when entering college is that you are now considered an adult which means it will be your responsibility to show up and perform at your best. This means you must notify your professors of days you might miss ahead of time so that you can adequately prepare for missed work.
However, another thing you may not be familiar with is the use of other platforms to turn in your work such as Blackboard and Wiley Plus. These platforms are used by professors to submit assignments and other work due in the class as well as to hand in work. This may seem like simple instructions, but another tool utilized in college is the use of Email. It may be easy to see an email and just ignore it, however the use of your student email is a life line when it comes to notifying and receiving messages, not only from your professor but also from the college. You will receive notifications when power outages happen, as well as when campuses are closed. It is also a way to keep in touch with your professors in the event of an emergency.
These are just a few things to watch for when joining college. While there are a lot of changes when entering college, the biggest thing to remember is that you are setting yourself up for future success. It is okay to have fun and enjoy yourself, but remember you are building the foundation in which you will be able to stand in the future. Even if you don’t know anyone, don’t be afraid to stop and ask someone for help if you can’t find a class or a building. We are a College family and are willing to help!

It is that time of year again where one needs to register for classes and have all the materials necessary for classes. Do you ever wish there was a way that you could receive more aid in regards to making up the difference in the price for classes and books? Well, do I have an amazing opportunity to tell you about here at Palm Beach State College. It is called the foundation scholarship and it is open to everyone, regardless of whether it’s your first semester or your last.
The foundation is set up to aid students through scholarships. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to make your life a little easier when it comes to tuition. The application will take one about 45 minutes to fill out and that’s it. I tell you this as your Student Trustee, and to inform you of some opportunities the school has for us as students. Dear Palm Beach State College Students,
It brings me great pleasure to introduce myself. My name is Joseph Morel, and I am
your new student trustee at Palm Beach State College. This month, I went through the
application process, which involved submitting an application and interviewing with
PBSC President Ava Parker and the Student Trustee Selection Committee. Although I
was not the only applicant, this was my second time running for the position. I’m
happy to follow in Dave Hernandez’s footsteps and thank him for setting the bar high
as the 2016-17 student trustee.
Some may say this is a great résumé booster, however, I am not here for the prestige of the position. I am here for you, and I plan to do all I can to represent you well. As I did when I served in the Marine Corps, I am pledging myself to this position and the mission to not only represent my fellow students, but to fully understand your difficulties, frustrations and hardships. I know college is not easy. However, I am here for you!
You may be asking yourself what does that mean. It is simple; I want to engage with you and to grow with you through my time as student trustee. More importantly, I want to represent you to the best of my ability.
I plan on scheduling meetings on all campuses throughout the academic year so I can personally speak with you and develop a relationship that is not one-sided. My goal is to be able to communicate your concerns effectively and build an understanding of what we as students want or need, including areas we think are being neglected. As I said earlier, I am here for you.
