Program Description
This degree program prepares the student to work in a variety of fields requiring
expertise in the field of emergency management.
Emergency management personnel plan and direct disaster response or crisis management
activities, provide disaster preparedness training, and prepare emergency plans and
procedures for natural (e.g., hurricanes, floods, earthquakes), wartime, or technological
(e.g., nuclear power plant emergencies or hazardous materials spills) disasters or
hostage situations.
Upon completion, the student will be able to prepare and analyze damage assessments,
coordinate disaster response or crisis management activities, prepare emergency management
plans, have knowledge of homeland and border security initiatives, mitigate damages
from emergency events, and help public and private sector entities recover and resume
operations in a timely manner.
The program will provide the student with several national
certifications from the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA).
