Dr. Aurélien is a Nurse Leader and philanthropist. She currently serves as the Director for the RN-BSN program at Palm Beach State College. Due to her innovative approaches, the program has grown tremendously.  Prior to this promotion, she was Faculty for 12 years in the ASN program. She feels very privileged to have an impact on the next generation of registered nurses.  She is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. She is the recipient of the 2018 Martin Luther King Leadership Award from Palm Beach State College, the 2018 Achievement Award from Royal Palm Beach High School, and the 2018 Haitian American Nurses Association(HANA)’s Outstanding Nursing Leadership Award.

Dr. Aurélien has been a part of the Nursing Profession for over 25 years. Her areas of practice range from primary care, to psychiatry/mental health, to long-term care, medical- surgical, to maternal/child health, pediatrics and school health centers (adolescent population), etc…  She volunteers as an international/visiting Nursing Faculty at the Faculté des Sciences Infirmières de Léogane (FSIL) in the Baccalaureate and Master’s programs in Haiti. Dr. Aurélien was instrumental in the formation/training of the first ever graduating class of Family Nurse Practitioners in Haiti (November 2017). 

Dr. Aurélien is a national and international speaker on topics related to nursing education, nursing workforce diversity, and health needs of incarcerated women. Dr. Aurélien holds a Doctorate in Education (focus:Leadership Educational Administration) from The University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, a Master’s of Science with a Primary Care focus from Northeastern University in Massachusetts, a Post-Master’s certificate in Nursing from Florida Atlantic University, and a Bachelor in Science Nursing from UMASS, Boston, Massachusetts. In 2009, Dr. Aurélien was nominated for the Palm Healthcare Foundation “Nurse Educator” Award and in 2007 for the Bravo Award from Palm Beach State College. Her research focus is on the factors that influence the persistent underrepresentation of racial/ethnic minorities in the registered nursing workforce in the US, which in turn, perpetuates the healthcare disparities in minority populations.

Dr. Aurélien is the immediate past co-Chair of the National Black Nurses Association (NBNA) Women’s Health Committee. Together they published a position paper related the issue is shackling of incarcerated women (of color) during the labor/delivery period (2018), and two resolutions: 1) Maternal mortality & 2) Healthcare Needs of Incarcerated women (2019). Dr. Aurélien is a member of the South region team for the Florida Action Coalition. 

From 2017 to 2018, Dr. Aurélien chaired the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) Committee at FoundCare Inc, a federally qualified community health center in Palm Beach County, Florida. She is the immediate past President for Palm Beach County Black Nurses Association (PBCBNA) and is the Vice-President of Iota Xi at-Large-Chapter of Sigma International Nursing Honor Society, and active in many other local and regional nursing and non-nursing organizations, and serves on the Board of regional corporations/organizations.

Dr. Aurélien enjoys the beach (sunrise), reading, traveling, volunteering, and spending time with her family and friends.
