Artist's Statement
My work is a reflection of life. The pieces are memories of people, places and things I have known. In the small faces I can see members of my family, people I once knew, and even myself. The work tends to be whimsical with a slightly dark under current.My sculptural forms are hand built using low-fire clay. Which is why no two figures will ever be exactly the same. The surfaces are decorated with stamped words and a variety of finishes, including oxides, under glaze, and glaze.
My art is collected both nationally and internationally. It's in the permanent collection of the Cafesjian Center for the Arts Museum, Armenia. I've shown my work at SDC London, England and in 2008 I was commissioned to paint Pop Art inspired murals at the Venue in London, England. I've shown work in numerous galleries including the Clay Studio, Philadelphia, PA, 19Karen Gallery, Mermaid Beach, Australia, the Florida Craftsmen, St Petersburg, FL, and the Piedmont Craftsmen, Winston-Salem, NC. My sculptural work has appeared in the Tampa Airport and in the publications: Ceramics Ireland, Art Doll Quarterly, Doll Master (Russian publication). Summer of 2017 my work was featured on the cover of Emboss with a full feature write up. My artwork can also be found in the following books: Art of the Contemporary Doll, 500 Figures in Clay Volume 2, 500 Handmade Dolls, Ceramic Design Book and I am also a guest blogger for CreateMixedMedia.com (Northlight Publications/FW Media).
I earned a Summa Cum Laude BFA in Graphic Design/Illustration with a minor in Art History and Ceramics. Later I earned two separate MFA's in Ceramics and Printmaking/Painting. I've always been torn between 2D and 3D art. I love the clean of graphic design and the messy of studio art. Making art is for me the most fulfilling thing in my life and I want my students to feel the same way.
Aside from making art, one of my greatest passions is travel. If the opportunity to travel arises always find a way to make it happen. In all of my years on this planet I have never heard of a person on their deathbed say "oh I should have worked more and traveled less". Enjoy your life, follow your bliss.
