Jonathan Pernick is a Professor at Palm Beach State College. He holds two completed masters degrees from the University of Florida (MBA, Decision Sciences & Marketing) and Florida Institute of Technology (MS, Systems Management). In addition, he holds 30 graduate hours in Accounting (Florida Atlantic University) and Hospitality Management (Florida International University). Professor Pernick is currently completing a DBA at Grenoble École de Management in France where he is researching performance measurement and management and national culture.
Professor Pernick leads a global career traversing entertainment, education, media, and technology. At the turn of the century after working in media and technology Pernick joined the United States Peace Corps. While serving in Ukraine he joined the team of the country’s first Minister of Education in development of Ukraine’s community college system, as well as provided ad hoc training for projects within the U.S. State Department and United Nations Development Project.
After successfully completing service Professor Pernick continued his work in Ukraine with various organizations including: ProCredit Bank, Privat Bank, and BMS Consulting.. Several years later his global service extended to other transitioning countries. Professor Pernick joined Rochester Institute of Technology at its campus in Prishtina, Kosovo followed by a position as Assistant Dean at Florida International University’s campus in Tianjin, China.
In the late 1980’s Professor Pernick launched his career transforming a university radio station (Florida Institute of Technology) into a nationally recognized, award winning media enterprise. His work in driving nontraditional sources of revenue, building image, and managing operations led to an introduction to David Horowitz (MTV, founder and Warner Communications, COO) partner of the fledgling SPIN Magazine. Continued successes led to a call from Elektra Entertainment, a division of Time Warner, to assist in the launch of a new marketing department. During his tenure he grew in rank to National Director managing a field staff from the companies Beverly Hills office. As consolidation and the Internet transformed the entertainment industry, Mr. Pernick returned to university to complete an MBA.
As the new century rolled around RealNetworks recruited Mr. Pernick to assist in its expansion of streaming media technologies. While at the company he was responsible for strategy development within media and entertainment verticals. Shortly after Professor Pernick shifted to an international focus and a Peace Corps Assignment.
Throughout his career Professor Pernick received numerous recognitions for excellence. In academia the Warrington College of Business at University of Florida awarded him a Graduate Assistantship, as well as funding to study at the Helsinki School of Economics. Earlier in his career Florida Institute of Technology awarded him a Graduate Assistantship to teach and assist in management science research. He was also inducted into “Who’s Who Among Students at American Colleges and Universities” at FIT. In business Time Warner recognized Mr. Pernick as “Marketing Manager of the Year” and also recognized his contributions – more than 25 times - for achieving sales exceeding one million units for artistic properties including Metallica, Natalie Cole, 10,000 Maniacs, Anita Baker, The Cure, Phish, The Rembrandts, and many others.
