Math Lab Tips

I have a test in a few hours, and I don't know the material, can a tutor teach it to me? You should come prepared prior to seeing a tutor. This means attending class or catching up on a missed lecture by reading the book and/or watching the taped-lectures. Tutors don't teach but assist you in the areas you are having trouble understanding within the allowed time.

I have a take-home test/quiz that my instructor has given me; can a tutor help me with it? Tutors are not permitted to work on problems given on a take-home test, quiz, or graded assignment unless special permission is given by your instructor. Tutors can help with a similar problem found by you in your textbook.

Supplemental Instruction (SI) is a learning enhancement program. SI is designed to organize and improve the ways in which students prepare for class outside of class. SI targets specific courses to provide students with a systematic and disciplined approach for processing the subject matter assigned by the professor.

SI Leaders are typically former students selected by professors of our most challenging courses. They undergo training where they learn techniques to facilitate weekly sessions. During these sessions, SI leaders use interactive learning strategies which encourage involvement, comprehension and synthesis of subject content.

SI attendees typically earn ½ to one full letter grade higher in the targeted courses than non-attendees.

Instructors: If you are interested in using SI in one of your classes, please fill out the form and email Jesse Rogers at with SI Request in the subject line.  If you would like more information feel free to contact Jesse Rogers by phone at (561) 207-5202.
