Get Ready! Palm Beach State College is offering High School sophomores juniors and seniors another exciting summer opportunity to explore science and engineering through and variety of team building projects and field trip experiences...for FREE! Last summer, 2016, 48 students from 18 public schools participated in the B.E.S.T. Summer Academy at Palm Beach State College. Each student gained valuable insights on pursuing engineering or science as viable career options. They learned about the many branches of engineering, a variety of internship opportunities, what engineers do on a daily basis, and the importance of teamwork. The students also developed an understanding of how prevalent engineering products are all around us, as well as required education to achieve those careers and average salaries.
The curriculum for the 3 week B.E.S.T. Summer Academy was developed for high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors to provide an in-depth exploration of local careers in science and engineering. In addition, activities encouraged creativity and comradery through a team-centered activities.
Students performed hands-on activities in engineering labs designing, building, and competing in the following projects: solar cars, robotics, 3D drafting, 3D scanning & printing, aerospace, programming, electronics, biotechnology and forensics. Field trips to local aerospace, solar and utility power companies gave the students a clear idea about an engineer's work environment. Furthermore, engineers from local industries visited the college to share their personal stories and career experience with the students.
B.E.S.T. Summer Academy will be offered again to high school sophomore, juniors and seniors in June 2017. If you are interested in attending or would like to learn more about B.E.S.T. Summer Academy please contact Oleg Andric, Professor/Dept Chair at (561) 207-5414 or email@example.com
