Center for Applied Ethics

Funded through the State Legislature, the Center is an outgrowth of local efforts to address the culture of corruption which had infiltrated many of Palm Beach County's institutions both public and private. In October of 2009, Palm Beach State College working with Leadership Palm Beach County hosted a meeting of major community partners and leaders to discuss what efforts and directions could and should be pursued.

The meeting featured a discussion led by Dr. Rushworth Kidder, founder and President of the Institute for Global Ethics. After that initial meeting, Palm Beach State College was encouraged to undertake a leadership role in both developing a plan and housing a center that would serve as the key local resource and focal point for establishing a culture of ethics in Palm Beach County.

Ethics Connections Program The Center was officially launched in 2011 and continues to collaborate on key strategic initiatives in close cooperation with a diverse cross-sector cadre of community leaders.

Our Mission

To build and sustain a culture of ethics in Palm Beach County

In support of this mission, the Center for Applied Ethics focuses on education, training, research, and advocacy. The Center serves Palm Beach County, including government, the private sector, non-profit organizations, schools, communities, and others seeking to foster a positive ethical environment and culture. It also serves as a catalyst and major advocate for building and sustaining a culture of ethics in Palm Beach County.

Leaders from various Palm Beach County organizations and foundations currently serve as the Ethics Partnership Council for the Center for Applied Ethics.

The Center for Applied Ethics (CAE), working closely with its partners, assumes a strong and proactive role with regards to establishing cultures of ethics in all organizations and communities in Palm Beach County. Through community forums, speakers and messages delivered through various media, the Center endeavors to raise the awareness and support for establishing and maintaining an ethical culture in all sectors of the County. Through community forums the Center provides a vehicle for public debate and discussion about key ethical issues.

CAE works closely with other leadership and professional development programs, initiatives and related efforts sponsored by other educational and community groups. Through its advocacy and education efforts, the Center aims to keep ethics and positive messages "on the front burner," playing a key role in improving the ethical climate in Palm Beach County.
