Where You Study Matters
Based on Palm Beach State's Lake Worth campus, this 13-month certificate program, which has no prerequisites, provides high-quality training in medical assisting at an affordable cost. As a state college, our tuition is a fraction of what private schools cost. When you also consider our experienced and credentialed instructors, small class sizes and modern medical office training lab, you'll see why Palm Beach State is the smart place to start your medical assisting career.

What's required to get started? You must hold a standard high school diploma or GED.

What is a Medical Assistant?
If you've been to a doctor's office, you've been helped by a medical assistant. Medical assistants are part of the interdisciplinary health care team, performing clinical and administrative tasks that are vital to the operation of a medical practice or health care facility. At Palm Beach State, students are cross-trained in both front office and clinical competencies, increasing their employability and career potential. See About Medical Assisting for more details about being a medical assistant.

A Nationally Accredited Program
Palm Beach State's Medical Assisting program is nationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (http://www.caahep.org/) upon the recommendation of the Medical Assisting Education Review Board (http://www.maerb.org/). Our program is currently the only CAAHEP-accredited medical assisting program in Palm Beach County.

Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) at 1361 Park Street, Clearwater, FL 33756; 727-210-2350.
Medical Assisting Education Review Board (MAERB) at 20 N. Wacker Drive, Suite 1575, Chicago, IL 60606; 1-800-228-2262.

Become a Certified Medical Assistant: CMA (AAMA)
Because Palm Beach State's Medical Assisting Program is CAAHEP-accredited, our graduates are eligible to take the CMA (AAMA) Certification Examination. The Certified Medical Assistant credential known as the CMA (AAMA) is awarded by the American Association of Medical Assistants and considered the gold standard of medical assisting professionalism. This credential is increasingly required by employers.

During the program, students also may pursue a Basic X-ray Operator License through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and the Florida Department of Health.

Graduates of the Medical Assisting program will receive a Postsecondary Adult Vocational Certificate (PSAV).

Credits from this certificate program may transfer to Palm Beach State's Associate in Science degree in Health Information Management.
