With an eclectic score ranging from birdsong to Vivaldi, BOTANICA reveals nature's changing imagery. An herbal remedy and natural aphrodisiac, BOTANICA shows off the endlessly renewable energy of the superb MOMIX performers, with costumes, projections and custom-made props and puppetry adding an extra dose of fantasy to the elixir. This is dance at its most organic and inventive. The seasons will never be the same.

Halau Hula Ka No'eau
[hah-lao hula kah no-ey-ow]
Friday, February 8, 2013
"True hula is the quintessential expression of Hawaiian cultural values," notes director Michael Pang.
Halau Hula Ka No'eau with deep roots in tradition is dedicated to preserving and performing traditional hula, a dance style called hula ku'i passed down from late hula master Maiki Aiu Lake. This styling is reflected in the gentle mannerisms and courtly dances of the Hawaiian Monarchy during the late 1800s. The evening also includes pieces focused on kahiko (ancient) and auana (contemporary) hula.
"Dance of deceptive simplicity and song and drumming of formidable complexity.. a flow of increasing rhythmic detail and staccato push." -Jennifer Dunning, The New York Times
