10/12/11

After losing 5 of their last 6 matches, the Panthers recovered last evening in Elisabeth Erling Gym in front of an enthusiastic sophomore night crowd. The sophs went out in style as Palm Beach defeated Broward in straight sets, 25-19, 25-22, & 25-15. The Panthers, who have been to the elite 8 of the FCSAA state tournament the last 3 years can make it a 4th year in a row but must win their final 2 conference matches against Brevard and Indian River on the road. The Panthers are in a battle for the second spot in the Southern Conference with Brevard and Indian River with their next game at Brevard on Thursday evening. Match time is set for 7pm.

The Panthers improved their Southern Conference record to 2-1 in front of a boisterous crowd on Thursday night defeating Brevard 3 games to 1. The match lasted 2 hours as each point seemed to be contested and hard fought. In the end, the Panthers staying power proved to be to much as they claimed a 25-20, 25-20, 25-27, 25-22 victory. Palm Beach moves into second place in the Southern Conference behind Miami Dade with their next conference match slated for Tuesday Sept. 20 vs. Indian River at Lake Worth.

The Palm Beach State College volleyball team struggled out of the gate in their first three volleyball matches as they fell to Miami Dade (0-3), Central Florida (1-3) and Pasco Hernando (1-3) on Thursday and Friday Sept 8 and 9. In the final day of their own tournament on Saturday Sept 10, the Panthers defeated St John's River (3-0) for their first match victory of the year before losing to Lake Sumter (1-3). On Tuesday Palm Beach defeated conference foe Broward in a hard fought match (3-2). The Panthers current record is 2-4 with a conference mark of 1-1.

Volleyball team ends season @ FCCAA State Tournament: The Palm Beach State Volleyball team ended their season this past weekend with a 1-2 match record. In Thursday's opening round the Panthers surprised Florida State College @ Jacksonville 3-2. That win matched the Panthers with the eventual state champs, Miami Dade on Friday @ noon. The Panthers played possibly their best match of the year but fell to the undefeated #1 ranked team in the country 3-1. The loss to Miami Dade moved the Panthers to the consolation bracket @ 7pm on Friday and they lost in a re-match to FSC @ Jacksonville, 0-3. Palm Beach ends their season with an overall match record of 19-14 and 9-3 in the Southern Conference.

Palm Beach State had a successful weekend at the Southern Conference Tournament winning 3 of 4 matches to secure their place in the "elite eight" of the state tournament. The Panthers defeated Brevard (3-1), Broward (3-0) and Indian River (3-0). Palm Beach lost to Miami Dade (0-3). The Panthers concluded their regular season with a match record of 18-12 and a Southern Conference Record of 9-3. The State Tournament will be held at Polk College in Winter Haven November 4-6. Times and opponents are to be announced.

After dropping 5 matches in a row (Miami Dade and 4 at the South Florida Tournament), Palm Beach State outlasted Northwood on sophomore night in Elisabeth Erling Gym (28-26, 25-15, 23-25, 23-25, 15-10). As has been the case in many of their home matches this season the Panthers jumped out to a quick 2 set lead and appeared on their way to a three set victory leading 23-21 in set three. However, they could not finish off Northwood and it was a battle from there. With the victory the Panthers moved their overall season match record to 15-10 and are 6-1 in the Southern Conference. The Panthers will finish out the regular portion of their season on the road with a match at Miami Dade on Wednesday October 20 and the Southern Conference Tournament which is played at Brevard on October 22 and 23.

The Panthers kept pace with arch rival Miami Dade as they defeated Brevard in straight sets (25-8, 25-19 & 25-19) to move their conference record to 6-0. Sophomore Heather Martin led the team with 9 kills followed by freshman Brittany Tiegs with 7. Tiegs also had 12 digs while freshman Katie Wayling collected 25 assists and 7 digs. The Panthers moved their overall match record to 14-5 and a perfect 6-0 in the Southern Conference.

The Panthers remained perfect in the Southern Conference (5-0) as they defeated Indian River on Tuesday night in Elisabeth Erling gym 3 games to 1. After relinquishing a 24-20 lead in the first game of the match to lose 27-29, Palm Beach got their game in gear to overwhelm their opponent in the next 3 games (25-16, 25-20 & 25-19). With the win the Panthers kept pace with the #1 team in the country Miami Dade with a perfect record in the conference. Palm Beach has a current match record of 13-4 and are ranked #5 in the State of Florida.

10/1 & 10/2/2010

After surviving a 5 game match against Broward on Thursday evening the Panthers ran into a buzz saw on Friday falling to State College of Florida (19-25, 15-25 & 15-25) and Pasco Hernando (17-25, 21-25 &23-25) at the South Florida tournament. Palm Beach did respond however in their Saturday matches as they defeated the host school South Florida (25-23, 25-16, & 25-20) and Gulf Coast (25-14, 25-14, & 24-14) to run their match record to 12-4.

Katie Wayling and Angela Connors were named to the All Tournament team for their efforts over the weekend.

9/30/2010

After their match with Miami Dade was postponed due to tropical storm Nicole the Panthers returned to Elisabeth Erling gym on Thursday night to face conference foe Broward. Palm Beach dominated the first two games (25-20 &25-21) but their level of play slipped in games 3 and 4 and Broward stepped up knotting the match at 2 games apiece (25-23 &25-23). The Panthers regrouped in time to take the winner take all game (15-10) to remain undefeated in match play (4-0), in the Southern Conference.

9/17 & 9/18

The Panthers didn't capture the top prize at the Pasco Hernando tournament but certainly made a fine showing as they defeated Monroe College (NY) (25-19, 25-22 & 25-16) and St. Pete (25-23, 25-20 & 25-23) on Friday. Saturday Palm Beach State split losing to Clearwater Christian College (12-25, 15-25 & 23-25) before coming back to defeat Polk State (26-24, 25-18, 20-25 & 25-21).

The Panthers ended up finishing third in the tournament. In the process they moved their overall season match record to 9-2. Heather Martin and Symone Carter were named to the All Tournament team.

9/16/2010

The Palm Beach State Panthers survived a 5 set, 2 hour and 20 minute match to move their conference record to 3-0 and overall record to 6-1 at home Thursday night. Palm Beach jumped out to a 2 game lead in the best of 5 (25-21 & 25-23) and were 1 point away from the match in the third game (24-23) before losing the third game 27-29. Brevard's third game win shifted the momentum and they defeated the Panthers 25-18 in the fourth game. However, Palm Beach responded in the winner take all in the fifth game by defeating Brevard 15-11 for the match victory.

9/11/2010

Palm Beach rebounded from their first match loss of the season by defeating St. Pete in the 3pm afternoon session on Saturday. The Panthers won the first two games of the match (25-17, 25-18) before slipping in the third game (21-25). In the fourth game the Panthers responded to close out the match, 25-20. Palm Beach will return to Southern Conference play on Thursday Sept. 16 in Lake Worth as they take on Brevard in a 7pm match.

The Panthers came out flat on Saturday morning and ran into a buzz saw in Pasco Hernando as they were beaten three games in a row (19-25, 20-25 & 22-25). Plam Beach continuously had to play catch up in the first two games they got down early and in the last game after a 19-19 deadlock allowed Pasco to go on a 6-3 run to win the match. The Panthers finished 2nd in Pool A of the tournament and will play the 2nd place finisher in pool B @ 3pm.

9/10/2010

The Palm Beach State College Volleyball Team remained perfect through the first day of their own tournament as they defeated South Florida (25-14, 25-14 & 25-21) and Polk (25-16, 24-26, 25-16 & 25-14). The Panthers were alert and active during the day as their passing, hitting and teamwork wore down both of their opponents. Palm Beach stayed undefeated with the 2 victories to move their match record to 4-0.

09/09/2010

It wasn't easy but the Panthers survived on the road Thursday evening against conference foe Indian River. It appeared early on that Palm Beach was going to get another 3 game and out road win as they had done on Tuesday but it wasn't to be. After jumping out to a 2-0 game lead the Panthers saw the home team regroup and win the next 2 games pushing the match to the 5 game limit. However, even with momentum on their side and the home crowd behind them Indian River could not finish the job as the Panthers recovered to win the 5th and deciding game. The win pushes Palm Beach to 2-0 for the season and 2-0 in the Southern Conference.

09/07/2010

The Panthers opened the Volleyball season with a convincing win on the road against conference foe Broward on Tuesday evening in Davie. Palm Beach jumped out of the gate in the first game grabbing a 15-4 lead before coasting to the win 25-16. The second game was tighter as the Panthers struggled maintaining just a 20-18 lead late in the game. They finished with a 5-1 run to close out the win 25-19. The third contest was nip and tuck for the first 25 points of the game with the Panthers holding a slim lead of 13-12. Palm Beach kicked into gear and finished off the Seahawks scoring 12 of the games next 16 points to win going away 25-16.
