One of the goals we set with the Print Efficiency Project was to reduce the expense to the College for printer toner. To meet that goal, we are pleased to announce that we are in the process of transitioning our HP Printer services to TGI Managed Services. They currently have the toner/maintenance contract for the Lanier and Savin Multi-function printer/copier devices (MFPs), and in November, they will also be taking on the contract to replace the toner cartridges for the HP laser printers that were rolled out this summer.
What does this mean to you?
TGI will use software tools to monitor the HP laser printers and proactively replace your toner cartridges. You will see them on campus on Fridays replacing them. This will meet our stated initiative to Replace, Refill and Reuse those cartridges.
What printers will they monitor? And what will they do?
- They will replace toner for the following models:
- HP CP3525 - Color LaserJet
- HP P2055n - LaserJet
- HP P4015 - Laser Jet
(Printers are easily identified by the green TGI labels)
- TGI staff will remove the old toner cartridge and install the new one.

Will my departmental budget be charged for toner?
No. For the 2010-11 fiscal year, toner for HP printers covered under the TGI Managed Services contract will be paid for from a college-wide account.
Why are we using TGI instead of replacing cartridges in-house?
Last fiscal year the College was spending on average $24,000 per month for inkjet cartridges and laser printer toner. The contract with TGI will cost about $7,000 per month, or about a 70% ($17,000) reduction in this monthly expense!
