Palm Beach State secured a spot in next month's "elite 8" state tournament as they defeated Indian River State College Saturday in Elisabeth Erling gym 68-51. The Panthers used a stifling defense in the first half to grab a 37-22 lead but Indian River cut the deficit to 6 with 7 minutes to go before Janay Borum took over scoring the next 7 points. From that point Palm Beach held off Indian River to win for the 21st time in 22 games this season.
Leading the way for the Panthers was Laquandra Brazil with 17 poits and 10 rebounds, Kayla Dayton collected 16 ponts and 5 assists while Borum had 11 points and 8 assists. The Panthers have 3 games left and maintain a perfect 7-0 in the conference.

The Palm Beach State College women's team won for the 15th time in a row as they defeated conference rival Brevard 82-51 Wednesday on the road. The Panthers jumped out to a 50-31 half time lead and put on a a defensive exibition in the second stanza limiting the hosts to only 20 points. Plam Beach placed 4 players in double figures as Me Me Ward had 20 points, Kayla Dayton 16, Janay Borum 11 and Sharneka McCatty 10. Ward also led the Panthers with 8 rebounds and Dayton dished out 8 assists. Palm Beach stands alone at the top of the conference with a 6-0 record and is 20-1 overall.

Palm Beach took sole possession of first place in the Southern Conference with a convincing 82-65 win on the road at St. Pete on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers jumped on St. Pete early and led at half time 43-30. Palm Beach again had great balance as they placed 4 players in double figures led by Me Me Ward with 23 points. Kayla Dayton was close behind with 20 points, Laquandra Brazil tallied 17 and Erica Cooper gathered 11. Ward and Brazil each had 12 rebounds and Louisiana Tech signee Janay Borum had a fine overall game with 12 assists, 9 points and 5 steals. The win moves the Panthers Southern Conference record to 5-0 and overall mark to 19-1.

The Panthers continued their winning ways on Saturday afternoon in Elisabeth Erling gym with a 94-71 win over Southern Conference rival Miami Dade. Leading 52-27 at the half the Panthers allowed Dade to close the gap to 13 in the first 10 minutes of the second half but the Sharks would never get closer as Palm Beach completed the victory to go 4-0 in the Southern Conference. Me Me Ward and Laquandra Brazil led the interior group with double-doubles as Ward had 22 points and 13 rebounds and Brazil collected 17 points and 13 rebounds. On the perimeter it was Kayla Dayton leading the way with 21 points and 6 assist while Janay Borum gathered 10 points, 4 assists and 4 steals. Palm Beach now stands at 18-1 overall

Palm Beach State defeated Broward on the road Wednesday night by the score of 72-64. The Panthers, for one of the few times this season were down at the half 32-31 but outscored the hosts by 9 in the second stanza to secure the victory. Palm Beach was led by All American candidate Me Me Ward with 18 points, Kayla Dayton and Erica Cooper each tallied 16 and Laquandra Brazil collected 15 points. With the victory, the Panthers moved their overall season record to 17-1 and are 3-0 in the Southern Conference.

In a very physical game the Panthers continued their winning ways on Saturday as they defeated Indian River State College on the road 72-57. the victory (their 11th in a row) moved them to 2-0 in the Southern Conference and 16-1 overall. Leading the way for Palm Beach was Me Me Ward with 20 points, 16 rebounds and 4 blocks. Ward had plenty of help as Janay Borum contributed 18 points, 9 rebounds, 8 assists and 5 steals and Kayla Dayton collected 16 points and 10 assists.
In addition, Borum was awarded the honor of FCSAA Florida women's basketball Player of the week for the period of January 9-15. During that time, Janay averaged 14.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 5.5 steals in two games which were victories over Brevard and Indian River.

The Panther women continued their winning way as they won their 10th game in a row defeating Brevard 81-51 on Wednesday evening in Elisabeth Erling Gym. Leading 29-24 at halftime, Palm Beach flexed their muscles immediately in the second stanza going on a 14-4 run and from there coasted to the 30 point victory. Leading the way for Palm Beach was Me Me Ward who collected a game high 22 points and 15 rebounds. Kayla Dayton also collected a double-double as she contributed 12 points and 10 assists. Other double digit scorers were Erica Cooper with 19 (5-5 from 3) and Janay Borum with 10. Borum also led the Panthers with 6 assists and 6 steals.

Holiday wrap up: The Panther women's basketball team is on a roll having won their last 9 in a row including 7 over the holiday break. During that time the Panthers defeated Clinton (61-44), Wake Tech (82-60), Indian River (79-62), LSU-Eunice (82-62), Muskegan (81-59), CC of Rhode Island (66-49) and Jamestown (77-36). The Panthers will now concentrate on Southern Conference play with a sparkling 14-1 record. Palm Beach will take on Brevard on Wednesday January 11. Tip off is set for 5:30pm.

The Panthers methodically pulled away from Santa Fe in the second half on Friday eveing to extend their record to 7-1. Palm Beach led at the half 35-32 but their stifling defense took over in the first 15 minutes of the second half as they pulled away from a game but outmanned Santa Fe squad. For the evening LaQuandra Brazil led Palm Beach with a double-double, 22 points and 10 rebounds. The other double digit scorer for the Panthers was Kayla Dayton as she tallied 20. Me Me Ward had another monster game on the glass as she collected 18 rebounds and Janay Borum "dished out" 8 assists.

After a rare 16 day layoff the Panthers were unable to shake off their rustiness as they dropped a 59-47 decision to Daytona State for their first loss of the season on Friday December 2 in the Florida Juco Shootout in Gainesville. Palm Beach was led in scoring by LaQuandra Brazil with 15 points and Me Me Ward with 10. In addition, Brazil collected 6 rebounds and Ward 4 to lead the Panthers in that category.
Saturday was a different story as the Panthers regrouped and rebounded with a 79-67 win against Hillsborough. The Panthers had an outstanding first half as they were up by 18 (47-29) at the break. foul trouble slowed the game in the second stanza but Palm Beach still came away with the double digit win. As a team the Panthers shot 51% from the field, 43% from the 3 point line and 77% from the free throw stripe. Me Me Ward led 4 players in double figures as she scored 24 points. Laqundra Brazil collected a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds while Erica Cooper had 14 (4-6 from 3) and Kayla Dayton had 14.
On Friday the 9th of December, the Panthers will begin a three week, 10 game home stretch to try and gain some momentum going into Southern Conference play.

The Panther Women came home to Elisabeth Erling Gym Tuesday night after 4 games on the road and continued their winning ways with a 67-54 victory over Hillsborough Community College. The Panthers led 39-23 at the half but Hillsborough woke up in the second stanza and got as close as 3 before the Panthers righted the ship and finished the game off at the free throw line.
Palm Beach's Kayla Dayton was the game's high scorer with 28 points including 4-8 from 3 point distance and 10-11 from the free throw line. Erica Cooper chipped in with 13 points for the Panthers while Me Me Ward had a monster game on the glass as she collected 18 rebounds.

For the second weekend in a row the women's basketball team went on the road and successfully complete two more wins to remain perfect on the season. In their most recent victories the Panthers traveled to Daytona State and played the host school and #4 ranked team in the State. Trailing 38-36 at the half, the Panthers came out and played their best half of baskeball so far in the young season out scoring their opponents by 17 in the second stanza to win going away 88-73. Leading the Panthers in double digit scoring were Kayla Dayton (22 pts.), Me Me Ward (19 pts), Sharneka McCatty (18 pts) and Louisiana Tech signee Janay Borum (10 pts). Ward and MCCatty led Palm Beach State with 14 and 6 rebounds respectfully while Borum had 8 assists.
Saturday's game was more methodical but the result was the same as Palm Beach State defeated College of Central Florida 67-57. Again the Panthers had 4 players in double figures with Dayton (19 pts) and Erica Cooper (15 pts) leading the way while Ward and Borum each followed up with 10 points. Ward for the third time this year had a double-double as she collected 10 rebounds and Dayton and Borum each had 5 assists. Palm Beach State is currently ranked #8 in the State and has a 4-0 record.

The women's basketball team begin their season on the road in Gainesville Thursday and Friday and cameaway with victories in both contests. In Thursday's contest Palm Beach State jumped all over The Rock beginning the game with a 34-4 run and were never threatened after that. Final score was 87-32. The Panthers had 5 players score in double figures; Kenzie Brisson (16 pts.), Me Me Ward (12 pts.), Janay Borum and Jenisha Gray ( 11 pts.) and Keonia Parish ( 10 pts.).
Friday's contest was a much more competitive game as Palm Beach squandered and 15 point half time lead but made enough clutch plays down the stretch to escape with the 3 point win against the host school Santa Fe 67-64.Panthers were led by Me Me Ward's double-double (21 pts and 20 rebounds), Kayla Dayton's and Erica Cooper's 10 points and apeice and Dayton's 6 assists.

After having their 6 game winning streak snapped by Monroe, the Panthers took it out on Jamestown (NY) Friday in Elisabeth Erling Gym 85-46. Palm Beach State was led in scoring by Tacharla Mars (17), Signe Berga (11) and Jasmin Brooks (10). In addition Berga collected 10 rebounds, 7 steals and 6 assists while Mars had 9 boards and 6 steals and Brooks had 7 steals. The women begin Southern Conference play Wednesday at Indian River with an 11-6 overall record.

The Panthers 6 game winning streak was snapped last night in Elisabeth Erling gym as Monroe Community College from Rochester, NY cam away with a 62-56 win. The game was a very physical and tight battle throughout with the Panthers leading 33-27 at the half. But after intermission Monroe used a very physical trapping defense that effected the smooth flow of the Panthers offense. Despite their struggles Palm Beach led 55-52 with about 3 minutes left in the contest but Monroe scored 10 of the game's last 11 points to seal the victory. For the game Palm Beach was led in scoring by Ariel Easton (22 pts) and Josephine Loob (10 pts). Easton also collected 4 assists and Loob gathered a team high 7 rebounds.

Holiday Hoops Action: The Panthers have gone on a 6 game winning streak to move their record to 10-5. During the break Palm Beach State defeated LSU Eunice (86-61), Cinn. State (94-75), Kishwaukee (IL) (75-45), Lakehead (CAN.) (61-59) and Owens (OH) (59-51).

The Panthers ran into a second half shooting blitz by North Central Missouri College and dropped a 79-65 decision Saturday afternoon in Elisabeth Erling Gym. Palm Beach seemed to have the game under control as they went into the locker room at half up 36-27 but North Central Missouri came out and went on a 34-13 run in the first 10 minutes of the second half to go up 61-49. The Panthers could get no closer than to within 8 points after that and dropped their 5th game of the season. The Panthers were led by Ariel Easton (19 pts), Kristie Shiels ( 18 pts., 8 assists), Josephine Loob (10 pts.) and Tacharla Mars (14 reb.).

The Panther women's basketball team won a thriller on the road Wednesday evening as they defeated Hillsborough 74-71 in overtime. Palm Beach State continues to improve and have won 3 of their last 4. FCCAA Player of the week last week, Ariel Easton, continues to put up big numbers as she led the Panthers with 30 points which included 5-11 from beyond the arc. Easton also contributed 3 rebounds and 3 assists. Sharnele Brown, returning to the school she transferred from, also had an impact game as she collected 13 points and 5 rebounds.

After an extended layoff from regular season action the Panther women returned to the hardwood last week and played 3 games winning 2 to push their season mark to 3-4.
On Nov. 30 Palm Beach defeated ASA out of New York in a physical brawl 63-57. Ariel Easton a freshman from South Bend, Indiana led the Panthers with 21 points which included 5-8 from 3 point land. Signe Berga chipped in with 12 points and 7 rebounds.
The Panthers hit the road last weekend for a pair of games in the Florida Juco Shootout held in Ocala. In Friday nights game Palm Beach won a thriller 69-66 as Josephine Loob hit a three pointer ( the first of her career) with 6 seconds to go against Florida State College @ Jacksonville. The Panthers were led in scoring by Ariel Easton's career high 27 points (5-8 from three), Sharnele Brown 13 points and Kristie Shiels with 10. Tacharla Mars collected 12 rebounds and Shiels had 6 assists for team highs.
Saturday the Panthers played only 7 players because four were sitting out with injury and gave the #7 team in the country all they could handle. After leading most of the way the Panthers finally ran out of gas and lost to Tallahassee 74-69. For the game Ariel Easton continued her steller play as she bagged 25 points which included 5-12 from the three point line. Josephine Loob added 13 points to go along with 5 rebounds and Sharnele Brown chipped in with 12 points. Tacharla Mars carried the rebounding burden as she collected 14.

The Panther women got their first win of the young season by defeating Andrew College out of Cuthbert, Georgia on Friday evening at Elisabeth Erling Gym, 71-50. Palm Beach had a slim halftime lead of 32-29 but their constant pressure caught up with Andrew in the second frame as they outscored the visitors 39-21. Palm Beach State was led in scoring by Melanie Itajahy with 16 (4-6 from 3), Ariel Easton with 15 and Sharnele Brown, 14. Tacharla Mars led the Panthers had 10 rebounds and Easton gathered in 6

Palm Beach State opened their third season under Head Coach Kris Ruffo at the Sante Fe Tip Off Classic in Gainesville this past weekend and suffered two losses. In both games the Panthers relinguished second half leads and were outrebounded soundly. Against Central on Friday Nov. 5, Palm Beach State led at the half 36-30 but were outscored in the second stanza 42-29 to suffer a 7 point loss, 72-65. For the game Palm Beach was led by Kristie Shiels (22 points, 8 steals, 5 assists and 4-7 from three) and Sharnel Brown (14 points).
On Saturday the Panthers led by three (32-29) at the half but again were outscored in the second period by 34-21 to lose for the second time in as many tries, 63-53. Melanie Itajahy and Josephine Loob led Palm Beach with 12 points apiece.
