If you like helping people feel positive about their appearance, being a facial specialist (esthetician) could be your new profession! Students are trained in a fully equipped spa, through a combination of lectures and hand-on practice, taught and guided by licensed professionals. At the end of this program, you may apply for your state license through the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

 LAKE WORTH:
Facials Specialist classes are offered full-time and part-time.

Students are trained in a fully-equipped nail spa setting through a combination of lectures and hands-on practice, taught and guided by licensed professionals. Massage Therapy is the manipulation of the soft tissues of the human body by a person who is licensed for compensation.

The Massage Therapy Program is designed to prepare our students for employment as licensed massage therapists. In therapeutic training lab, hydrotherapy lab and clinical environments, students will practice Swedish massage as well as a variety of allied modalities. Practice in the lab and with clients in a public student clinic prepares our students for “real world” experience. Students will learn how to gather client information, assess client needs, perform client-centered massage sessions and complete medical documentation in the form of SOAP note charting.

The goal of the Massage Therapy Program is to provide high quality, employment-focused workforce training designed to meet the changing needs of our diverse community. Program completers are eligible to take the National Certification for Therapeutic Massage examination or the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards examination for Florida State licensure.

 

Business Partnership Council

This council is designed to support program development keeping consistent and current with the needs of our industry in the southeast Florida community. Council members are employers, doctors, licensed massage therapists and establishment owners who know the needs of the massage and bodywork industry. Program Application Deadline Date: All program applications are to be handed into the admissions office no later than Friday, November 15, 2019.

Mandatory Orientation: Mandatory Orientation is for accepted students only and will be held on Dec. 9, 2019 from 1:00 – 3:30 PM for Full-Time Day students and from 5:00 – 7:30 PM for Part-Time Evening students. During Orientation we will go over the rules and regulations for the program, required next steps, financial aid options, program schedule, as well as other pertinent information.

Program Credit Hours: Our program is 750 clock hours and has four courses.
Introduction to Massage Therapy = 78 Clock Hours
Massage Therapy I = 200 Clock Hours
Massage Therapy II = 235 Clock Hours
Massage Therapy III = 237 Clock Hours

Program Schedule: Our program has 3 cohorts per year.

  1. Full-Time day class from January to July (7 months) Monday through Friday.
  2. Full-Time day class from June to December (7 months) Monday through Friday.
    Classes and labs are held during the day, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, with some variation according to semester.
  3. Part-Time evening class from January to December (12 months)
    Classes and labs are held during the evening, between 4:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, with some variation according to semester.

Western Anatomy, Physiology & Pathology

We use a "whole-brain" approach to learning that includes sculpting muscles with clay, games, creative projects and symbolism, all of which help students to gain a tangible understanding of the human body and how the natural healing process works.


Eastern Anatomy & Physiology

Ancient holistic healing systems are presented and compared with modern scientific discoveries regarding the correspondences between the physical body, the emotions and the mind. An experiential understanding of the chakras and subtle energy work is presented along with theory and techniques from India, Thailand, Polynesia, China and Japan.


Massage Lab

Massage lab begins with training students on Swedish massage one stroke at a time. Many allied modality techniques are taught in addition to the basic Swedish massage, offering students a thorough training for job employment once licensed. As students become more proficient with Swedish massage, we begin to introduce allied modalities and other bodywork techniques such as; Hydrotherapy(Hot packs, Cryotherapy), Native American Hot Stone massage, Aromatherapy, Reflexology, Chair massage, ROM, Sports, Active Isolated Stretching, Thai massage, Manual Lymph Drainage, Aryurveda Shirodhara, Neuromuscular therapy, Reiki, Body Rolling (self massage), infant massage and Cranial Sacral therapy.


Hydrotherapy Lab

We provide a 'state of the art' ceramic tiled room with two Vichy shower stations and a Hydro-therapy tub for training students and servicing clientele in a wet/hydrotherapy spa. Students learn the Vichy table rinse as well as the procedure for assisting the client off the table for a shower rinse. We begin with Aromatherapy Salt Glow Exfoliations (wet and dry), Hot/Cold Contrast Baths and Herbal Infusion Baths.(Refer to Student Clinic menu of services)


Integrative Case Studies

In MSS0252 Massage Therapy I, students begin learning Swedish Massage strokes, protocols, body mechanics and routines. By MSS0262 Massage Therapy II, students change their focus to the client/patient needs, indications, contra-indications, endangerment sites and pathology. Students learn how to gather medical information, create medical charts, practice S.O.A.P. notes, practice medical terminology,  and how to operate a clinic setting. Clients, Instructors and Students have a circle of communication through our "Clinic Critiques". In MSS0263 Massage Therapy III students are now creating treatment plans and developing critical thinking skills for individual client/patient needs.


Palm Beach State/FAU Learning Exchange Program

Introduction to Musculoskeletal Gross anatomy at the Florida Atlantic University Biomedical lab; FAU Medical students and faculty teach Palm Beach State Massage Therapy Senior students gross anatomy bringing all they have learned 'to life'. In exchange, Palm Beach State Massage therapy senior students and instructors teach Complimentary and Alternative Medicine and Compassionate touch to FAU medical students.


Business/Marketing/Entrepreneurship Class

Do you want to be self employed or work for someone else? Since we are a vocational program, we focus on training our students to work wherever they desire. Do you see yourself in a Medical setting or hospital, a five star resort, spa, or cruise ship? We want all our licensed graduates employed and happy with their employment. Palm Beach State College has it's own "Small Business Development Center" whereby certified business analysts are available to offer education, support and encouragement to students who choose to create their own business.


Community Outreach

Student therapists take Chair Massage on the road. We take our chairs to your community affairs or activities as long as the event meets with our schedule. Our best times are Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 12-3pm or Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:30-9:30pm. Typically we provide three chairs, five massage therapy students and one instructor.

Every year the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards informs the massage therapy schools of how well our students perform on the examination. As reported by the FSMTB, Palm Beach State College Massage Therapy graduates continues to hold a high pass rate between  86%-100% as compared to the average Florida state massage school pass rate of 63% and the national average massage school pass rate of 70%.

These statistics are due to the design of our curriculum, our excellent qualified instructors and our high academic standards.

Upon completion of all the Massage Therapy Program requirements, students are guided in the completion of the applications for the state examination and licensing forms.

Completing students are then invited to wear caps and gowns and partake in the Palm Beach State College graduation commencement ceremonies in the month of December. Families and guests are welcome to attend.

Employers are pleased with our 'state of the art ' facility and thorough training program. We receive calls year round inquiring to hire our licensed graduates. Licensed graduates are working in Massage establishments, day spas, large resort spas, chiropractic offices, hospitals, cruise ships, their own out call businesses and their own wellness centers. Instructors

Margi Foley, Full-Time Instructor, is also a Graduate of the Palm Beach State College Massage Therapy Program, a Massage Therapist for 9 years before becoming a Florida Licensed Massage Therapist in 2005. As a Massage Lab and Clinic hands-on instructor, Margi's soft loving personality educates students step-by-step to develop their hands on clinic skills. Margi’s love for Massage Therapy is surpassed only by her talent for teaching in a way that truly connects with students.

Mindy Yale, Full-Time Instructor, has been teaching anatomy and physiology, eastern modalities, and allied natural therapies since 1995 and has been a licensed Massage therapist since 1992. Her dedication to providing practical understanding and support to the professional development of her students is paramount. She implements different styles of teaching that are tailored to help different types of learners to succeed in a challenging field. Mindy's class will transform you like no other.

Anatomy and Physiology, Pathology, Professional Development, Hydrotherapy, Trigger Point Therapy, Structural Integration, Swedish Massage, Reflexology, Sports Massage, Myokinetics, Functional Assessment, Hydrostone, Kinesiology, (Advanced Master Program), Trager, Advanced Neuromuscular, Resistive Release, Myofascial Release, Active Isolated Stretching as well as general education. Bodhi Da Silva, Adjunct Instructor, offers a unique massage experience as he shares with us his specialty of Thai Massage. Bodhi started his teaching career with PBSC in the year 2000; the first year the Massage Therapy Program began. Bodhi is additionally part of the Hippocrates Health Institute family where he shares his healing touch with people who face life threatening health challenges. Bodhi spreads his knowledge and love throughout the world offering Thai Certification courses. Bodhi's approach is truthful, direct, and genuine. He supports you in properly utilizing authentic Thai technique while encouraging you to be true to who you are.


Lisa Moran (Lee), Adjunct Instructor, graduated from Palm Beach State College's Massage Therapy Program and has been licensed since 2011. She comes to us with a BA in Psychology and incorporates her background in mental health with Mind/Body/Spirit integrative massage therapy in the hospice field. In addition to hospice patients, Lee has a private practice of individual and corporate clients. Sheen joys "paying forward" the transformative education that was lovingly provided by the highest quality instructors and massage therapy program.

Menu of services:

Swedish Massage  $18
A 50-minute, full body relaxation massage. Student therapists will incorporate varied basic Swedish massage techniques in a rhythmical sequence that will cover all major muscle groups of the body, providing a fully relaxing session.

Stone Massage  $27
A 50-minute, full body deep relaxation massage with smooth hot river rocks. The combination of Swedish massage techniques and hot river rocks allows for deeper tissue penetration and deeper relaxation.

Vichy Exfoliation  $25
Aromatherapy sea salt applied to the skin in a vigorous fashion to encourage increased blood flow and skin exfoliation, followed by a warm rain shower rinse and a soothing application of moisturizing skin lotion. Aroma oil added to the salt rub is optional.

Chair Massage  $13
A 30-minute clothed massage performed in a specially designed massage chair with specific attention paid to muscles of the head, neck, and shoulders, upper and lower back, arms, hands and wrists.

Reflexology (feet &/or hands)   $18

Heavy equipment mechanics inspect, maintain, and repair vehicles and machinery used in construction, farming, air and rail transportation, ocean vessels, and other industries. Service technicians usually work indoors in repair shops. They often lift heavy parts and tools, handle greasy and dirty equipment, and stand or lie in uncomfortable positions. Most service technicians work full time, and many work evenings and weekends. Overtime is common.

This program prepares the student for entry-level employment in a variety of occupations in the welding industry. The content includes, but is not limited to, communication skills, human relations, employability skills, safe and efficient work practices, reading blueprints, identifying metals and basic shop skills.

Shop activities are an integral part of this program and provide instruction in the various processes and fabrication skills, including torch cutting, arc welding, MIG welding, flux core welding, TIG welding, certification test preparation, use of current industry standards, practices and techniques.

Day Schedule: New classes start in August and they fill quickly! Students are in class Monday through Thursday from 8:30am-4:30pm. You can finish the program and get your certificate in 11 months.

LAKE WORTH:
