ACUE Certificate in Effective Teaching Practice

Palm Beach State College has partnered with the Association of College and University Educators (ACUE) to offer faculty the voluntary opportunity to pursue a Certificate in Effective Teaching Practice, the only college teaching credential endorsed by the American Council on Education (ACE). This offering aligns with our mission of providing accessible, student-centered teaching and learning experiences.

Applications for Fall 2024 cohorts are open now!

This ACUE certification is earned through successful completion of asynchronous online courses which prepare faculty in evidence-based teaching practices proven through independently-validated research to improve student achievement. Faculty who complete the program earn a nationally recognized Certificate in Effective Teaching Practice.

This program is delivered fully online and is professionally facilitated. PBSC faculty participants will be enrolled within a cohort of PBSC colleagues. The program addresses all the core competencies defined in ACUE’s Effective Practice Framework© and is organized into four micro courses:

  • Creating an Inclusive and Supportive Online Learning Environment
  • Promoting Active Online Learning
  • Inspiring Inquiry and Preparing Lifelong Learners in Your Online Course
  • Designing Student Centered Courses

Cohorts typically complete one module per week, requiring 1-3 hours of activity.  The application period for Fall 2024 cohorts is open through April 26, 2024. Click here to apply. Rosters will be announced by early August 2024.

About ACUE

Delivered in collaboration with ACUE logoinstitutional partners, ACUE certificate programs are delivered 100% online. Through ACUE’s innovative learning design, faculty gain foundational knowledge, implement evidence-based best practices, reflect on their implementation, and refine their practice.

ACUE programs are aligned with 25 core competencies outlined in the Effective Practice Framework©. Faculty who meet course requirements may earn ACUE’s Certificate in Effective Online Teaching Practices, endorsed by the American Council on Education.

The ACUE curriculum is appropriate for all full-time and part-time faculty in any discipline. Of the thousands of faculty who have enrolled in ACUE’s courses:

  • 94% found the course content relevant to their work
  • 94% found the course helpful in refining their teaching practice
  • 88% would recommend the course to a colleague

For PBSC faculty who meet the eligibility requirements and currently teach online classes, this opportunity is offered at no cost to you or your department. The institution is able to cover the $2,000 tuition per faculty member.

Faculty who complete the course will earn the Certificate in Effective Teaching Practice and earn digital badges, which can be added to your curriculum vitae, used in online teaching portfolios, and displayed on LinkedIn profiles or web pages as a sign of your achievement.

  • Faculty members can expect to spend approximately 1-3 hours of activity per week, on average, in the course.
  • Cohorts typically complete one module per week over 25 weeks.
  • No ACUE coursework is due during Spring Break, Summer, Thanksgiving Break, or Winter Break. However, the course will remain open during those times to faculty who wish to access it.
