ACUE Certificate in Effective Online Teaching Practices

Palm Beach State College is strengthening our collaboration with the Association of College and University Educators (ACUE) to bring you a host of faculty development resources proven to enrich teaching practices and help every student thrive academically.

The ACUE Effective Teaching Practice Framework certification is available to all PBSC faculty and academic support staff.

This ACUE certification is earned through successful completion of asynchronous online courses which prepare faculty in evidence-based teaching practices proven through independently-validated research to improve student achievement. Faculty who complete the program earn a nationally recognized Certificate in Effective Teaching Practice.

The program is now offered through two dedicated pathways:

Effective Online Teaching Practices (EOTP) - Tailored for those teaching in distance learning modalities. To earn this credential, you must complete all of the following courses:

  • Creating a Productive Online Learning Environment
  • Promoting Active Learning Online
  • Inspiring Inquiry and Lifelong Learning in Your Online Course
  • Designing Learner-Centered Courses

Effective Teaching Practices (ETP) - Geared toward instructors in face-to-face classrooms. To earn this credential, you must complete all of the following courses:

  • Creating a Productive Learning Environment
  • Promoting Active Learning
  • Inspiring Inquiry and Preparing Lifelong Learners
  • Designing Learner-Centered Courses

Both EOTP and ETP now include the new Nursing Pathway in Effective Teaching.

For the first time, PBSC faculty may also pursue the ACUE Advanced Certificate in the Effective Teaching Practice Framework by completing both the EOTP and ETP pathways.

Cohorts typically complete one module per week, requiring 1-3 hours of activity.

For PBSC faculty who meet the eligibility requirements, this opportunity is offered at no cost to you or your department. The institution is able to cover the $2,000 tuition per faculty member.

Faculty who complete all courses in either the EOTP or ETP pathway will earn the Certificate in Effective Teaching Practice and earn digital badges, which can be added to your curriculum vitae, used in online teaching portfolios, and displayed on LinkedIn profiles or web pages as a sign of your achievement.

  • Faculty members can expect to spend approximately 1-3 hours of activity per week, on average, in the course.
  • Cohorts typically complete one module per week over 25 weeks.
  • No ACUE coursework is due during Thanksgiving Break or Winter Break. However, the course will remain open during those times to faculty who wish to access it.
