Science & Math

The Math & Science Institute (MSI) is an academically rigorous program designed for students with a keen interest in pursuing degrees in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). The Institute consists of college-credit courses including:

  • BioTechnology
  • Physics
  • Trigonometry
  • Calculus
  • Environment and Energy Technology
  • Anatomy & Physiology
  • Statistics

Faculty for the institute provide an interdisciplinary approach to their teaching to ensure the curriculum is both relevant and rigorous.

Support for this program provides:

    • the opportunity for students to attend at no cost
    • transportation and costs associated with field trips to locations such as NASA Space Center
    • stipends for guest speakers

Science Path Project
Coordinating the alignment of Biology and Chemistry between the palm Beach County School District and Palm Beach State to increase high-school student readiness for college-level gateway science courses.

Funding support provided by Quantum Foundation for this 3-year project has provided identification of gaps in teaching techniques at the high school level and training for high school teachers.

Additional support would provide:

    • Greater opportunities for virtual learning objects to be developed throughout the sciences at Palm Beach State.

Natural Sciences
A strategic academic priority that serves as a gateway for STEAM careers, the Natural Sciences curriculum offers 9 areas of study and 14 state-of-the-art laboratories for students.

Support for this program would provide:

    • offering students paid internships
    • covering costs of attending conference presentations
    • establishing peer and alumni mentoring programs to help students get maximum benefit from their course and internship experiences.

In order to respond to the needs of south Florida's emerging bioscience industry, this project is designed to bring the Biotechnology Program at Palm Beach State College to full capacity by fortifying key elements in biotechnology training.

Support for this programs provides:

    • offering students paid internships
    • covering costs of attending conference presentations
    • establishing peer and alumni biotechnology tutoring and mentoring programs to help students get maximum benefit from their course and internship experiences

Institute for Life Sciences developing state-of-the-art, industry-driven curriculum products and services. The Institute provides individual and certified professionals with educational offerings that enhance their core knowledge and skills.

Computer Science & Information Technology certificates, associate and bachelor level degrees prepare students to become highly-skilled computer programmers, network administrators, web development specialists and more.

Through the funding support of Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training [TAACCCPT] Palm Beach State will serve as host site for the regions only cyber range. This contained system will allow students and businesses to practice security measures and prevention against hackers.

Further support for this program would provide:

    • offering students paid internships
    • expansion of the range's offerings and activities in the region
    • scholarship support for deserving students.

Health Information Technology offers students the only accredited degree in Palm Beach County to prepare students with state-of-the-art training to meet demands of electronic medical record keeping.  Support for this program has been provided through the Department of Labor's Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training (TAACCCT).  Three million dollars in support is going towards developing online and technology-enabled learning to prepare our health care students in responding to a federal mandate to switch to electronic health records by 2014.

Energy Technology programs prepare students for career paths in electrical power generation and alternative energy engineering.

Support of this program would provide:

    • paid internships for students to have the opportunity to experience and apply lessons learned in the classroom
    • scholarship support for deserving students.


Donate now buttonInstitute for Energy & Environmental Sustainability [IEES]
The Institute is focused on the development of academic and career programs that meet guidelines and recommendations from National Science Board to support education and workforce development for Building a Sustainable Energy Future. 

The Institute [IEES] has been designed to meet the community's need for a highly-trained workforce in emerging Green Industry sectors such as:

  • Renewable Energy
  • Alternative Transportation
  • Clean Technology
  • Energy Efficiency
  • Smart Grid Operations

Support of this program includes:

    • building a Learning Laboratory where mechanisms for sustainable energy would be integrated in the building and classes taught
    • providing paid internships with businesses focused on the creation of green and sustainable principles
    • scholarship support for deserving students

Center for Green Construction & Energy offers continuing education, certification/license renewal classes in sustainable building practices, solar energy and other environmentally friendly careers.

Support of this program would provide:

    • Scholarship support for deserving students.

Virtual Learning Library Project
Having the capability of accessing virtual learning modules to reinforce classroom teaching is an important tool in today's educational environment. A student can review pieces of information as many times as desired and utilize questions in the module to insure that the material is learned. For the professor, embedded quizzes and expanded explanations can tap a student's individual learning styles to support critical thinking in an individualized way.

Support of this program includes:

    • purchasing of Software license to provide virtual storage of catalogued modules

Performing Arts operates three state-of-the-art theatres which serve as creative learning studios for students and as cultural centers for Palm Beach County residents.
