Other Field Observation Placement Opportunities

In addition to field observation placement in public schools in Palm Beach County (SDPBC), other placement opportunities are available.  All placement locations must be approved by your instructor prior to beginning observation.

Palm Beach County Charter Schools

Though forty-eight charter schools are part of the School District of Palm Beach County, the SDPBC Office of Professional Development does not place students at these charter schools. These schools each place students on an individual basis. Placement will be determined by the number of inquiries, the number of spaces available and the date and time within the school year. Security requirements and placement are at the discretion of the school. If a school does not agree to place you, please select another school. If the selected school agrees to place you, please fill in the attached Charter/Private School Permission memo, have the director or placement contact sign the memo and submit the memo along with your online placement form.

Private Schools in Palm Beach County

Palm Beach County has 104 private schools registered with the Florida Department of Education. Observation placement is determined by the number of inquiries, the number of spaces available and the date and time within the school year.  Security requirements are at the discretion of the school. If a private school does not agree to place you at this time, please select another school. If the selected school or agency agrees to place you, please fill in the attached Charter/Private School Permission memo, have the director or placement contact sign the memo and submit the permission form along with your online placement form.

If a charter or private school requires Level 2 security, the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office will do fingerprinting and the required background checks for about $58. Go to "Inside PBSO" to find out more information.

It is possible there are private schools not listed on the FDOE PDF. As with all private and charter schools, your professor has the final approval as to whether these schools can be used for the field observation assignment. If approved, the student would complete the Charter/Private School Permission memo, have the school administrator sign off on it and submit it along with your online placement form.

Martin County Public Schools

Palm Beach State College has signed an affiliation agreement with Martin County Public Schools to place PBSC student requesting field observation on a space available basis. Placement will be determined by the number of inquiries, the number of spaces available and the date and time within the school year.

PBSC Centers for Early Learning

Palm Beach State College has a Center for Early Learning on the Palm Beach Gardens Campus. The Center for Early Learning on the Palm Beach Gardens Campus implements a High/Scope curriculum for children aged 6 weeks to 4 years old.  There are posted guidelines for student field observation. All observations must be pre-arranged with the administrative staff and those requiring more than 10 hours of observation per month will need to fill in a prescribed group of security and health forms (listed on guideline site.) A permission memo needs to be signed for this venue and submitted along with along with your online placement form.

All alternative field observation placements require students to have the classroom teachers sign off on observation visits for each day the student is on site on a Field Observation log and turn it in as part of their observation assignment to their professor.
