James Patterson Presidential Scholarship

Transforming Lives Through Literacy

April 2022

James Patterson, the world’s bestselling author, has created a scholarship that covers the full cost of tuition and fees for full-time students. The Patterson Family Foundation has established scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students at 15 colleges and universities across the United States, but this is the first to benefit community college students.

Through the PBSC Foundation, the James Patterson Presidential Scholarship funds 20 full-time scholarships.  While eligibility targets students who are enrolled in English language arts or have expressed interest in pursuing careers in education, the scholarship is available to other full-time students as well.

Mr. Patterson was formally introduced to Palm Beach State in 2019 when he headlined the College’s annual STEAM event. “I am stunned by this college,” Patterson told the luncheon attendees. “What they have done is really impressive. I can tell these are smart people. Palm Beach State has an impressive track record in molding students into becoming future leaders, and our scholarship helps to continue that legacy.”

PBSC President Ava L. Parker, J.D., has expressed her appreciation for Mr. Patterson. “This scholarship bearing the name of one of the world’s most revered authors is helping PBSC attract some of the brightest students in the county. Having James Patterson as a friend of the College speaks volumes for the progress that we have made in elevating Palm Beach State College to a level never before seen in the community college landscape.
