The Beginning and the End
A Solo Exhibition by Gregory Dirr

Join Us for the Opening Reception:
Thursday, Sept.17, 2026 from 5 to 7 p.m.
Exhibit Dates: Sept 17 through Oct. 22, 2026

"The Beginning & The End" is an exploration of concepts, characters, and settings within an epic narrative novel called The Big Book. This experimental series of paintings, sculptures, and installation reflects Romantic era works that often-depicted fairytales, folklore, mythology, and nature. These works utilize dramatic lighting and dark palettes to evoke emotion and emphasize scenery, much like theater.

The dramatic energy found in the intro and outro of The Big Book is directly inspired by the intensity of Romantic works. The collection of works in The Beginning & The End speaks through archetype reversal and ‘flipping the script’ on dark themes found in traditional folklore. Many masterworks are recontextualized in Gregory’s own telling, using his story and original characters to change the narrative.
