Pursuant to Palm Beach State College District Board of Trustees Policy 6Hx-18-1.02, the District Board of Trustees of Palm Beach State College will hold its regular public meeting on Tuesday, September 14, 2021, beginning at 4:00 PM. The meeting is open to the public and will be held in the Multi-Media Board Room, CE-129 on the Lake Worth campus.

Legal Notice – Information Session, September 3, 2021

Pursuant to Palm Beach State College District Board of Trustees Policy 6Hx-18-1.02, the District Board of Trustees will hold a virtual information session on Friday, September 3, 2021 beginning at 1:00 p.m. The meeting will be conducted as a Microsoft Teams Webinar and is open to the public. The public can access the meeting via https://tinyurl.com/palmbeachstate  and will be viewable in Continuing Education Building, Room CE119 on the Lake Worth Campus of Palm Beach State College, located at 4200 Congress Avenue, Lake Worth, FL 33461. The purpose of this meeting is to provide Trustees information pertaining to the PBSC Foundation. The District Board of Trustees, the legal governing body of the College, will not vote on any official College business during this meeting.

Public Notice of Proposed Course User Fee Adjustment

The Palm Beach State College District Board of Trustees will be considering course and user fee adjustments at its next regularly scheduled meeting on September 14, 2021, at 4:00 PM.

Pursuant to District Board of Trustees Policy 6Hx-18-4.17, Florida Statute 1009.23(12)(a), SBE Rule 6A-14.054, and Auditor General guidance, the College performs regular reviews of its course special fees such as laboratory, testing, materials, and insurance fees.  In addition to basic cost increases, several items are new course or accreditation requirements since the last review.  This triennial review recommends the following adjustments to the fees as listed below.  There are 52 items with an increase out of approximately 750 courses to be offered in the Summer Term 2022.

1. The Surgical Technology program and Medical Assisting program are transitioning from clock hour to credit hour programs therefore it is proposed that current fees be applied to the new courses.

A. Fees for Medical Assisting courses will be applied to nine (9) new credit courses to cover laboratory supplies and personal protective equipment for students.

B. Fees for Surgical Services courses will be applied to ten (10) new credit courses to cover dosimeters, personal protective equipment, web-based learning, laboratory material, study guide, an Association of Surgical Technology Student membership, and certifying exam as required by the accreditation agency.

Public Notice of Proposed Course and User Fee Adjustment

The Palm Beach State College District Board of Trustees will be considering course and user fee adjustments at its next regularly scheduled meeting on February 16, 2021, at 4:00 PM.

NOTE: The Surgical Technology program and Medical Assisting program are transitioning from clock hour to credit hour programs therefore the fees need to be applied to the new courses.

This change affects the courses listed below:

1. Introduction to Medical Assisting (MEA1007C): New course in inventory (fee formerly applied to MEA0005). The $10 fee covers computer laboratory supplies, toner, and paper.

2. Diseases, Disorders and Treatments 1 (MEA1021C): New course in inventory (fee formerly applied to MEA0234). The $15 fee covers personal protective equipment (gloves, gowns, and masks).

3. Introduction to Medical Office Procedures (MEA1304C): New course in inventory (fee formerly applied to MEA0310). The $10 fee covers laboratory supplies, toner, and paper.

4. Basic Lab and Phlebotomy (MEA2248C): New course in inventory (fee formerly applied to MEA0254 and MEA0520). The $15 fee covers personal protective equipment (gloves, gowns, and masks), test kits, and phlebotomy supplies (syringes, vacutainer needles, vacutainer tubes, and tourniquets).

5. Diseases, Disorders and Treatments 2 (MEA1250C): New course in inventory (fee formerly applied to MEA0237). The $15 fee covers personal protective equipment (gloves, gowns, and masks).

6. Physician Reimbursement and Revenue (MEA1355C): New course in inventory (fee formerly applied to MEA0334). The $10 fee covers laboratory supplies, toner, and paper.

7. Pharmacology Lab (MEA2246L): New course in inventory (fee formerly applied to MEA0242). The $15 fee covers personal protective equipment (gloves, gowns, and masks).

8. Diagnostic Procedures (MEA2253C): New course in inventory (fee formerly applied to MEA0258 and MEA0540). The $15 fee covers personal protective equipment (gloves, gowns, and masks).

9. Externship for Medical Assisting (MEA2803C): New course in inventory (fee formerly applied to MEA0801). The $10 fee covers laboratory supplies, toner, and paper.

10. Surgical Techniques and Procedures 1 (STS1323C): New course in inventory (fee formerly applied to STS0150C). The $175 fee covers gloves, masks, gowns, and web-based learning.

11. Pharmacology and Anesthesia for Surgical Services (STS 1340C): New course in inventory (fee formerly applied to STS0008). The $10 fee covers web-based learning.

12. Leadership for Surgical Services (STS2365C): New course in inventory. The $10 fee covers web-based learning.

13. Surgical Specialties Clinical 1 (STS2944C): New course in inventory (fee formerly applied to STS0120 and STS 0255L). The $47.58 fee covers the dosimeter and web-based learning.

14. Surgical Specialties Clinical 2 (STS2945C): New course in inventory (fee formerly applied to STS0121 and STS0256L). The $294.58 fee covers the dosimeters, Association of Surgical Technology Student membership, study guide, and the Certified Surgical Technologist national certifying exam.

15. Capstone for Surgical Services (STS2955C): New course in inventory. The $59.99 fee covers software license and web-based learning.

16. Central Sterile Clinical (HSC1434C): New course in inventory. The $47.58 fee covers dosimeters and web-based learning.

17. Surgical Techniques and Procedures 2 (STS2324C): New course in inventory. The $184 fee covers gowns, gloves, masks, scrub brushes, and web-based learning.

18. Introduction to Surgical Techniques (STS1304C): New course in inventory (fee formerly applied to STS0003L). The $184 fee covers gloves, gowns, scrub brushes, masks, and web-based learning.

19. Introduction to Surgical Technology (STS1302C): New course in inventory (fee formerly applied to STS0003). The $10 fee covers web-based learning.

1. Firefighter 2 (FFP0031): Revised course in inventory (previously FFP0020). The increased lab/user fee of $45.74 per student covers fuel, plywood, apparatus maintenance, medium-density fiberwood (flashover), self-contained breathing apparatus, cleaning disinfectant, rope, and hay.

  1. Capstone Experience: Entrepreneurship (ENT4900): Adding $40 per student to take the Peregrine examination which is used for external assessment of the BAS program which is a requirement to maintaining ACBSP accreditation.
  2. Capstone Experience-General Management (GEB4935): Adding $40 per student to take the Peregrine examination which is used for external assessment of the BAS program which is a requirement to maintaining ACBSP accreditation.
  3. Capstone Experience-Health Management (HSA4938): Adding $40 per student to take the Peregrine examination which is used for external assessment of the BAS program which is a requirement to maintaining ACBSP accreditation.

These additional testing fees included in the course fee assessment will be used directly to pay for and administer the capstone exams. The non-resident rate was $1,674 which will increase to $1,714 to include the test. The instate rate was $368.55 which will increase to $408.55 to include the test.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that in accordance with Section 286.011 (8) Fla. Stat., on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. the Board of Trustees of Palm Beach State College will hold an Attorney-Client Shade Meeting in Room HT-121 of its Boca Raton Campus, located at 801 Palm Beach State College, Boca Raton, FL 33431 to discuss the claim bill filed in the Florida Senate in connection with the following litigation:

Dwella Nelson and Robert Nelson vs. Academy of Dance, Music and Theatre, Inc. and Palm Beach State College, Case No.: 50-2016-CA-001650

The meeting will be attended by the District Board of Trustees of Palm Beach State College, President Ava L. Parker, General Counsel Kevin A. Fernander, Vice President of Administration and Business Services Richard A. Becker, defense counsels Edward Prieto and/or Mary Ann Stiles, coverage counsel Richard E. Mitchell and/or Joseph Fitos, and a designated court reporter.
